Duke University has, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful campus from what I’ve seen in books, magazines, internet etc.

Miami of Ohio, duh…
Umm not sure how Texas A&M made the list. Love the Aggies but the campus is not top 50.

Another vote for COLGATE!

All you have to do is visit or see the colgate.edu website to be convinced. It has blue stone on most buildings and architectural consistency, it’s set on a hill with a lake at the base on the route to the charming village of Hamilton 10 minutes walk away, it has a renowned golf course, and three distinct seasons with SNOW for those who want the full northeast US college experience.

Check out the website’s webcams to see why Colgate ranks so highly!

^The toothpaste university doesn’t look that great imho.

UNC Chapel Hill. No contest.

Elon university even though their financial aid sucks.

Check out High Point University in NC. Beautiful inside and out. In my opinion, Duke is nice on the outside, but old and needs updating on the inside.

I’m partial to ERAU Prescott since I went there for undergrad. All bias aside, I can’t think of a more beautiful location to have a campus… high desert Arizona, gorgeous mountains nearby, lakes, varying terrain, small campus population, and great weather. It is truly spectacular.

University of Colorado at Boulder has a very beautiful campus!!

I’m surprised noone mentioned UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC Santa Barbara. They’re the best in the west! lol Jk But they do have eye catching campuses! I might seem a little bias since I’m going to UCLA in the fall! lol :p

My vote is for Lehigh.

Yale. Immaculately maintained, its like a Ralph Lauren ad come to life.
Wake Forest is often mentioned as the best designed campus as far as layout but I think it’s really pretty.

University of Virginia is high on both of those lists. They are currently redoing all of the dorms built in the 70s. Charlottesville is in the middle of nowhere in the South, but has a liberal northern flair. There is a great restaurant vibe there (even better than Richmond, where I am currently living) and a trolley and bus system that takes you all over town. The fall is gorgeous, there is a bit of snow but a mostly warm winter, and the gardens are beautiful in the spring and summer. The mountain views outside of town are amazing - there is a lake, Lake Monticello, outside of town, as well as a man made lake community at the northern end of town. The architecture is all classical Jeffersonian, it was built to teach architecture originally and is like nothing else. The newer buildings have a modern flair but the entire town has the Jeffersonian flair to it. My cousins went to Stanford and LOVED visiting and said it was just as beautiful.

UNC Chapel Hill

Agree that Colby is more beautiful than Bowdoin…but my vote goes to Swarthmore, Haverford a close second

As a parent, partial to the lake views and walk down (not so much up) Bascom Hill at U Wisconsin – but of course, it is the school my son fell in love with, so I am biased.

Growing up back east, Princteon, Bryn Mawr and Haverford were beautiful. Princeton calm and leafy, with mix of architecture. Bryn Mawr Gothic central – what is not to love about the twists and turns, the courtyard, and the Great Hall at Thomas? And Haverford – with the simplicity of Founder’s Hall, the calm of duck pond, all lovely.

Other schools when we visited for older son – Grinnell is gorgeous – I loved how dorms line each side of the long quad, with older brick ones on one side and new, limestone and steel dorms on the other. A successful blend of styles.

UC Santa Cruz. It’s set in a redwood forest. My dorm room had a 180 degree view of Monterey Bay. The town of Santa Cruz is fun and you are only 1.5 hours from San Francisco.

Cornell University fits this description perfectly except the snow (but, really, everyone I’ve known who went there from Florida and California fell in love with the place so don’t let a normal winter stop you).

It is always considered one of the most beautiful (it’s hard to get to so not many people stumble upon it to know). It has beautiful architecture (both ivy-covered intricate classic and bold modern). Lake Beebe is on campus and deep gorges with great waterfalls flowing through campus and collegetown down the hill into downtown Ithaca and Lake Cayuga, which has a nicely enlightened culture / vibe with great restaurants, organic markets, etc., as well as quality wineries throughout the Finger Lakes region.

http://30.media.■■■■■■■■■■/tumblr_lbmdo1xgzh1qduevwo1_500.jpg

Florida Gulf Coast, you can’t beat South Florida weather and a private beach on campus only for students!

I’ve visited all three at some point, and I’m not surprised. In fact, I can’t think of any California college that would crack my personal top 20 list, though UCSC is quite pretty, and some of the others are fairly decent. I’ve admittedly not visited most of the CSUs, and I haven’t seen a few UCs either (UCI, UCD, UCM).

I really like UNC, and it has some very nice buildings/areas (e.g. South and its quad, McCorkle, the forest theater, etc.), but again, it would not make my top 20. Its architecture is too eclectic, and the campus is not laid out very well.

Colleges I thought were extremely beautiful:

– Berry College (Far and away #1 on my list. Beautiful Gothic, Normandy, timber, and other architecture. Absolutely stunning natural setting.)
– Sewanee
– Rhodes
– Wellesley
– Bryn Mawr
– Kenyon
– Warren Wilson
– Swarthmore

The “I really liked it” list includes:

– College of the Atlantic
– Princeton
– Cornell
– U Washington
– Elon
– Haverford
– Vassar
– William & Mary
– Florida State
– Lewis & Clark
– Wake Forest
– Furman
– Wash U

If we’re counting those outside the US, I thought Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, and UBC were very nice. I’ve only seen pictures of Colgate and Indiana, but I agree with others that they seem beautiful.

I’m sure there are colleges I’ve never visited or even heard of that are more beautiful than some of these…this thread will probably be dominated by selective colleges partly because they tend to be the most visited colleges among CCers.

what about Ohio state university ??
