Collegetown Dorm

I just got my housin assignment, Cascadilla Hall in Collegetown. Does anybody know how easy it is to get three square meals a day in the dining halls, living across a river down there? I requested West Campus, and I’m pretty bummed about getting dumped as far away as possible from all the dining halls.

Anyone have experience down there?

S1 was placed in Shelton Court as a Sophomore Transfer. He chose not to be on a meal plan as it was easier to eat in Collegetown then go to the West dining halls. It worked out fine for him.

Honestly, I’ve heard that the Collegetown Dorms are a lot better and more fun than West. As far as meals, I don’t know what to say, but in terms of social atmosphere, I heard that it is better!

For anyone that may in the future read this, after a semester I have on piece of advice.
For the love of God and all that is holy, GET A DORM ON WEST.
Collegetown has some of the absolute worst dorms at Cornell.

Some of the down sides to Cascadilla: The rooms are tiny, and the common spaces often have students who “camp out” there in study groups. A plus: It can be a great location, especially for engineering majors, as it’s pretty close to the engineering quad. If you do end up there, get a partial meal plan, eat on campus for lunch and some dinners, have breakfast in your dorm room, and eat in Collegetown for other meals. My D ate at Collegetown Bagels quite often, at all hours of the day.

DD actually chose Casc over West. Sure, West is beautiful, but Casc is much closer to her classes (engineering) and she won’t have to tredge up that huge hill every day. At West you are required to pay for the most expensive meal plan also, so then when you want to eat in collegetown, if you’re conscientious about money, you could feel badly about that. Also, she had a large double and she enjoys being in college town where the action is. She eats some on campus, but also does some of her own grocery shopping and feels she eats healthier that way.
