Colonial Inauguration Question

How important is the CI?

I am from overseas and I am struggling between going to a regular CI and going to the International Student’s Orientation. Do you guys know the differences between these two orientations??

If I go at a later date, is it less likely that I will get into the classes that I want to take? (Do we have a say in picking classes, class time, and professors?)

Please help! I am utterly confused.. :(

There isn't a difference in programming between either CI. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you register classes before attending CI? http://gwired.gwu.edu/ci is the website for CI. Check out the info on GW First Class and freshmen registration. Contact them to get their opinion about which to attend. If you have the money to buy a plane ticket to DC and attend one of the sessions, go for it. If you choose the international CI, you'll be able to move into your room earlier than your roommates and claim you bed and desk.

International CI sucked compared to the regular CIs during the summer. The cabinet seemed exhausted and they were not as enthusiastic. Also, we totally did not get all the cool things other CIs got. I paid that 250 for CI as everyone else did, but I certainly didn't get the same experience. However, it is only CI.. meaning it's not the most important event of your GW experience.. But if you have the money to fly into DC for CI, do it. Regular CI will be much better than international.

Now the whole registration business. You register at CI. They do have caps for the number of students allowed to register for classes for each CI. So if you go to a later CI, it won't affect you. (That's the regular CIs) I know this happened last year, they didn't take into account international CI. So there were minimal number of spaces left for the people who registered at CI. However, I didn't find it too much of a problem, I got into every class I needed to, (not all were my first choice.)

The system has changed. Students no longer register for classes at CI. They register before and get advice and opinions from advisors and the cabinet and then add/drop as needed.
