Color Guard

I totally want to join. But I have no experience. How can I prepare??

You may want to PM fascination, or 98beebee, or Niquii, the greatest color guarder of all time.

Or me.

Dang Mint. Way to cut a sista out.

Was captain of the team, bro

Haha I totally will! Thanks for the recommendations.

But since Niquii commented, can I just ask it here?lol.

HOW CAN I JOIN?? Like I would love to join next year or in college!

Right now your school will be ending their color guard season and getting into preparation for winter guard season. It’s a good time to join. Talk to the band director if you don’t know who’s in charge of the team. Tell the person you’re interested in joining.

Depending on the size of the color guard you may have to try out. If you have to try out, there will be conditioning days and try out days where you will learn the basics - dance, technique (dance and flag), and the try out routine. If you don’t have to try out, then really you just start going to practice with them. You’ll most likely get one on one sessions with the caption or coach to get you caught up on basics.

Have fun! It’s a great thing. Practice makes perfect. And hardwork really shows. If you have any questions, just ask!

Well my school doesn’t have a winter guard, so it’s either senior year or college! And what should you practice for the tryouts?

Oh darn!
Does your school have tryouts? If they don’t then you have nothing to sorry about. If they do, you should practice dance technique since you don’t really have any of the flags and whatnot. Search colorguard dance technique on google and you’ll come across some sites.

Get used to doing push ups  In my team, every time you mess up you do five push-ups.

Yeah… Push-ups for days. Once we ran a mile cause some girl didn’t show up. Fun times.

Thx minty for the rec to me. You could ask some vets to teach you basics like drop spins and pull-hits. I know my school has a guard closet with flags and rifles and some sabres and its open year-round.

^Legit. One football season was really rocky - full of people talking back, not knowing the flag/rifle work so our coach made us do push-ups until she was satisfied and if someone stopped we stopped doing push-ups and hovered over the ground until the person started up again. Sigh. Tough times. Tough times. One winter guard season, people weren’t remembering their sets so our coach made us run around the gym so we would “remember the outline of our floor”. Mind you this is barefoot with blisters on your feet from dance camps mid-season.

Tough times but good times :)

Sounds harsh, but kinda fun at the same time.

I’ll definitely start the push ups. LOL.

I can’t wait! Thanks guys! :D
