Looking into Colorado College, I've found that a lot of people state that you either love or you hate the block plan. I feel like it's a great school, in a great location, but I'm pretty iffy about the block plan- not sure how much I would like it.

Are there any generalizations as to what types of students find the block plan to work or not work for them?

Stereotypically, it’s good for kids who can’t focus on many things at once. However I think that’s an unfair generalization.

After a year of college, I would say the block plan is ideal. I’d much rather spend the time devoted to investigating one topic, rather than just have a smattering of everything, especially when in college you just meet for class twice a week, and end up barely doing the homework anyways.

Astronomy classes can be taught at night, science classes can spend all day in the lab. I understand that some people just can’t handle the math at the pace. Immersion in your foreign language class but then nothing until the next one. If you don’t like a class, it’s over in four weeks, if you do like a class, it’s over in four weeks. There really are positives and negatives just like for a regular system. But people are used to the regular system so the negatives don’t seem so bad.
