Colorado School of Mines Admission Questions

Hello. I’m going to be a senior and I was looking into applying to Colorado School of Mines when I saw that one of the requirements was 2 years of academic electives( engineering, STEM, computer science). If I only have 1 year, will that severely affect my chances? I’m going to ask one of the admission officers about this too but I thought I might get some opinions before I do. Thank you! (my stats are 33 ACT, 4.72 weighted GPA/3.97 unweighted, and top 10% of class).

What are your high school classes? You don’t have 3 sciences and advanced math, even stats?)

Oh, I do. I have taken AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, and AP Physics 1(4 years of science and 4 years of math), taking Calc 3, AP Stat, AP Bio, and AP Computer Science this year but I didn’t take any computer classes before so I’m worried about that part.

I don’t think they are looking for anything out of the ordinary. My nephew was accepted with just regular high school courses - 4 years of math and science. I don’t remember him having any special computer classes or robotics or engineering.

Agree, my kid (accepted with scholarship) had academic electives but they were not engineering or CS. You’ll be accepted.

I think you are fine, BC. AB, stats, these are probably considered academic electives if they are beyond the grad reqs in your school, and you have 3 AP sciences. Are you instate? It is an expensive school all things considered.

Yes, I live in-state.

Yes my daughter had similar classes/stats and was accepted in early October last year.

@Chrysanthemum88 Your ACT math score and GPA will get you into Mines. With a 33 you are way above average at Mines as long as your math grades are mostly As and your math score is high, you should get in. Mines is very picky about the math ACT score, as all engineering colleges are today.
