Colorado School of Mines Admissions

Will I get into the colorado school of mines? I want to major in chemical engineering. I am a junior in high school with a 3.77 weighted(will be 3.8 by end of this semester) and am predicted to get a 28 on the ACT based on the plan test. I recently took a princeton review practice test and had issues with timing and got a 25. i have had straight As besides freshman year and that is what lowered my GPA. I have taken AP GOV, AP Psych, College english(not ap but still receives college credit), college pc applications, and college business. Next year I plan on taking AP Chem, AP Spanish, college english, honors pre calc, trig, and calc a. What can i do to do better on the act and will i get accepted to mines? do i have a good chance?

Hi! I am also a junior in highschool who wants to major in chemical engineering and wants to know if I will get into Mines… My unweighted GPA is 3.9 (I expect it to go down a little next year) and I got a 33 on the ACT. By the end of senior year I will have taken AP Statistics, AP Psych, AP Chemistry, AP Literature, AP Language, AP US History, AP Econ(macro and micro), AP Calculus BC, and AP Physics B. I am not heavily involved in extra curriculars, which is my biggest worry in terms of college, but I’m really hoping that I’ll get in to Mines…so I guess my main question is will my sparse involvement in ECs hurt my chances of getting in?

We live in Colorado, and our son went through the admissions process this fall. The word on the street here is to apply to Mines early, like August or September. They have rolling admissions, and friends have observed that as the class fills up, it seems like the admissions standards go up. Don’t know if this is true, but it is also nice to have an admissions decision early, before you need to apply to other schools. It helped my son really focus his other applications. Once he was accepted at Mines, any other school had to either be a “better fit” or potentially less expensive than Mines, a very high bar.

Marcolo1 - will you be in-state or out-of-state? With in-state you would have a good chance, but OOS it might be more tricky. If you do get admitted, your GPA and scores will determine your scholarships and you’ll want the highest you can get.

CSM does not weight, so your unweighted GPA will need to be around 3.8 as that’s their average. Your class rank will come into play also.

Cephalopod - I would get at least one strong EC in - a good volunteer position or leadership position. Again, your admission will depend on if you’re in or out of state.
