Colorado State University vs Montana State University?

I have narrowed down my college options to each of these schools. I am wanting to study Conservation Biology and Ecology in college, and each of these schools has the major I want. However, based on my visits Colorado State appeared to have the better program with more resources. I could be completely wrong though. My only reservation with attending CSU is it’s location: it is 15 minutes away from my hometown. I loved the Montana State campus and Bozeman and was impressed with the Honors College, but I want to make sure I’m choosing the best program for my major. Does anyone have any experiences with any of these schools or majors that can provide some insight to my decision? Thanks

Don’t know about the specific department but CSU is a great school. I’m a junior there

CSU has a great reputation in the BIological (particularly animal) Sciences. Montana State may be good, too, but if money is a concern, I can’t see the advantage in enrolling at MSU.

Don’t let proximity of your hometown influence your decision too much. While it’s fun to go to school far from where you live, the truth is that life on campus is a whole new world for everyone - even those who grew up near by. Choose your school by the academic programs, your gut feelings about the campus, and the overall opportunities for research/internship opportunities/part-time jobs/contact with faculty, etc. I would start by really looking at what you get as an Honors College student. Some Honors College programs have so many perks, that they more than make up for any rankings differences between the respective universities.

How much does each cost if you add tuition+fees+room+board, and subtrac any scholarship or grant?
What perks do you get at each Honors College?
