Columbia 2015 hopefuls

I’m applying… and I’m nervous!!! ED!!! NOV FIRST is creepin up like something that creeps… lol for real.

RD applicant to Columbia :)

I just sent my app ED to CC
does anyone know if Columbia asks for first quarter grades before deciding on admission if you are applying early decision?

^ i’d like to know this as well cause i just got two B’s in both my ap classes for the first marking period D:

Generally, when you’re applying to ED/EA programs, they would like to see your first quarter grades. I know Duke specifically requires them for its ED applicants.

well, they were high B’s, but i guess that doesn’t help me much. a b is a b ;__;

at least i got a’s in all of my other classes. but they get a midyear report too don’t they? i only allow myself to get two B’s a year anyway. ffffuuuu

Yes, they do.

don;t worry, Bs won’t kill you. It’s more about the fact that you are challenging yourself by taking AP courses

ahh, that’s good to hear.

it’s a little intimidating though, seeing how many ap’s some of the people on here take. my school doesn’t offer very many at all. and i’ve taken/am taking all of the ones they offer except for AP calc. but i’m making up for it by taking college algebra next semester.

also, do you know whether it’s true that they mostly focus on your junior year as far as grades? i mean, i’ve had all honors classes and or AP classes for all 4 years, but i’m a bit ashamed to say that years like my soph year weren’t my best (a 3.5. -shudder- haha) but i know that as long as i show improvement i’m all good right? luckily, from soph to junior, i jumped up from a 3.5 to a very haughty 4.5.

this is all so mind boggling. i feel like a little puppet trying to please customers in hopes that they will take me home. it’s amazing how much it takes from your life…

I’m thinking applying RD to Columbia  forrrr Political Science and International Relations!
I loooove the east coast and it’s really pretty at Columbia.
…let’s just hope I get accepted -.-

Hello! I’m from a small public school in Ohio. Applying ED for Neuro and Behavior… the program at Columbia is amazing.

^ Random question, but is your username derived from the comic “Cyanide and Happiness”? I used to read it almost daily lol.

Love that comic! No, it’s not a reference to that, just to CN- :stuck_out_tongue:
But props for reading Cyanide & Happiness.

Just submitted my ED app last night! Applied Columbia College for Urban Studies and Political Science.

Anyone participated in the Columbia chat session? It was helpful! We spoke to an admissions officer and a few students currently enrolled at Columbia. They were so nice and they cleared all my doubts.

No, they will not modify your essays. No, they will not discuss SAT scores. No, they will not chance you.

Catch the next session :)

what did they say?

i’m kinda sad i didn’t catch wind of this. i mean, i knew it was happening but i didn’t get an invite or anything :(

quick question - after you submit part 1 of the common app, do you get a columbia ID number for the website to check the status of your app?

from my understanding, once you submit everything, you should get an email from them with the tracking number, which you also have to use on your FA stuff.

i’m guessing they send it when you app is complete. my transcripts were sent long ago, and i just sent my app yesterday, i’m guessing the only thing they are weighting for is for my score report.

@ icolumbiau do you know when the next columbia chat session is?

Yes, sure! You do need to be invited via email though because of the link and the registration. These are the times for Internationals only because I only have them.

@wombatlikewoah, it was 2 hours long and there was a lot said. Too much in fact: 30 people typing at once with 6 moderators trying to stay awake at 2am their time. Lol.
