Hi.

Columbia College (not SEAS) had a 8.9% acceptance rate for the class of 2013.
Fu Foundation (SEAS) had a 14.4% acceptance rate for the class of 2013.

I can major in applied math in both Columbia College and SEAS, but I have to get a recommendation from my math teacher for SEAS.

Higher acceptance rate with bad rec or low acceptance rate with good recs, or does it not matter that much?

wrong on all counts, you fail!

1) higher acceptance rate does not equal easier to get into, the stats of admitted students to seas indicate that they are more qualified than those in Columbia College meaning seas might be more difficult to get into. The admissions pool is more self-selective than the college’s, overall they’re about as difficult to get into

2) you don’t necessarily need to get a recommendation from your math teacher even if you apply to seas, I’m in seas and had no recommendation from my math teacher, I had two science teachers recommend me, just get teachers who know you well, and one who is in the field you intend to pursue.

3) The decision should come down to what you want to study, the college has a significant core set of requirements, which you should do a search and read about on this website, if that suits you, then the college is a good choice

4) you appear to not have the right analytical skills, so perhaps you should just apply to Columbia college :D

I know that high admit rate doesnt necessarily mean easier to get in…Cal state LA has 14% admit rate but avg SAT is less than 2000
