hi,
i was just looking at columbia's aile program, and i was wondering about the competition, as in how fierce it is?
if i'm applyign as a freshman of 09, then do i apply for aile program at this point, or is it the matter of transferring in?

Dude get into the school first…You apply to the AILE as a junior and you have to have outstanding grades…My advisor said that almost nobody gets into the program

Yeah, requirements are:
(1) a 3.9 GPA
(2) a 170 LSAT
(3) complete your entire major’s required courses by the end of your junior year
(4) have, at a maximum, 12 credits of non-major courses remaining to graduate by the end of your junior year
(5) file an application to the Law School as any other student would do.

Approximately 1-2 students do this each year. It’s a royal pain, and what you give up is an otherwise enjoyable senior year of college. That will be a year of your life that you will wish you had back when you’re sweating away till midnight doing document review for Crevath, Swaine and Moore.
