So, the title of the thread explains itself. I didnt receive one myself but a couple of my friends received one. Is it only for the college or also for SEAS?

online too?

holy smakers! Sutol you totally just ruined my day...lol where do you live? Maybe since I didn't get one I still stand a chance. For serious, I don't think I can handle the wait any longer.

If you get one, it should still be pretty good news. It totally beats 50:50 chance for the people who didn't get one and still have to wait till the end of the week. Now you can make sure Columbia knows how much you want to go there if you do really want to go there. Then the chances of getting off the wait list are much better.

How many people get in off of the waitlist?

Anybody else get one?

I am going to say that this post is highly suspect. First off, the Ivies are actually under a set of guidelines that stipulate that no school can send out any decisions before the 1st of April (that being said, all Ivies do send theirs out late on the 31st of March).

Likely letters are sent out to candidates telling them that they will most likely be accepted, but that until the official send date, a school cannot make that promise.

In the case of Columbia, likely letters are only sent to SEAS students. It would be unethical of Columbia to send out their waitlist decision letters already as it would break the Ivy code.

Either sutol, or his/her friends, are pulling your legs. As a former ED applicant, no decisions on admission, deferral or rejection were ever sent before the given date.

I was thinking that...hence my question asking if anyone else got one.

if the letters are real, not getting one is not necessarily good - you could be rejected completely.

what a cheerful thought. ugh.

No. Waitlist letters do not violate Ivy notification rules.

Well, I for one don't really care all that much...I'll find out for sure in less than 3 days, and I can't go to the schools until late August anyways...so knowing today vs. Thursday doesn't really matter. But, good luck to all of you anyways.

i love that attitude! :p

WHO CARES.

What's the difference between getting wl and getting rejected? the point is, YOU DID NOT GET IN! so what do you guys even WANT TO get waitlisted? for ex "holy smakers! Sutol you totally just ruined my day..."

the point of applying is to get ADMITTED.... so wl != acceptance..... you're not gonna go 20 year down the road and say "yeah, i didn't get in, BUT son, i was waitlisted!!! i ALMOST got in!"

it means the door isn't closed, princetonwannabe

for schools like columbia that have almost 800 students on the WL while they might not evne use it, being on the WL will just make the applicants more anxious over nothing. and if columbia's wl is not ranked (like most schools) then the chances of getting off it is like the chance of an average applicant applying to all ivies and getting into all of them.

sure, the door is not closed yet. but for close to 99% of the ppl on the wl, being on the wl still means they did not get in... i was just confused why would some ppl want to be on the wl... being on the wl is not the same as making it to the commitee... you will not have a 50 50 chance of getting in.

well jaug you were right abt one thing, it was a hoax and i myself did believe it till i called columbia and they said they havent sent even one letter out. this girl at my school told the guidance couselor that she received one and so did two others. my guidance counselor told us as a class and voila i fed u wrong info. sry abt that but relax, none have been sent.

Yeah, I was just sorta confused by that. Thanks for the clearup sutol.

When the letters do get sent on Thursday I hope that some of you will accept the offer of admission and come to campus in the fall! Best of luck!
