So I’ve been luck enough to be accepted into both The University of Chicago and Columbia University and I plan to major in economics. From what I’ve researched I know that Uchicago’s economics program is one of the best in the world. Additionally, Ive also heard that Uchicago does a great job in helping its students get internships. I was accepted EA to Chicago, therefore I know a lot more about what it has to offer. I’d love to get some insight on Columbia’s economics program and how helpful they are in getting internships. Thanks so much
could you post your statistics and your grades/scores throughout high school?
I’m looking to apply to those schools also and i want to see how I compare to someone who was admitted.
Please include ECs if possible! thanks
@eyylee: don’t divert this thread. You can just look here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1752936-columbia-university-class-of-2019-results.html
and here:
My son is (HS rising junior) is interested in both of these schools. I would be interested to know which you decide on and why.
Congrats on your acceptances, U Chicago is an absolute powerhouse in econ, it should be a no brainer if you’re ok with living in Chicago. Take a look at their faculty and all the econ nobel laureates they have. With that said, Columbia econ still places very well in the top investment banks if you’re interested in that career path.
Agree with previous poster. Chicago is one of the top econ programs in the world. That said, we have two young friends. One is a few years out of Columbia where she majored in econ. Lots and lots of recruiters for Wall Street for internships and post graduation employment. Another friend’s son is there now and majoring in econ and has a great summer internship with one of the top investment banks and had several interviews.
Nobel Laureates? Do they teach undergrads at either university?
By the way, here’s Columbia Universities’ list of Nobel winners.
Thanks. Son not accepted yet, but has the grades and hook. One never knows, though. Columbia prob first choice, close to home.
There are some fundamental differences in how the two schools teach economics. Look at the difference between Saltwater and Freshwater Econ. Columbia is Saltwater making it more Neo-Keynesian while Chicago is Freshwater and therefore a Neo-Classical school.
