Columbia and Yale

for an international needing aid, is his chance of admission the same for both the unis named above? Thanks.

^ more or less.

if i were to like both equally.. which should i go Early to have a higher chance?

Columbia

but apply early to the one you like more, for gods sake

Columbia ED is less selective. Take into account that these are two very different schools.

hmm.. both are my top choices.. i wouldn't mind a bit going to either... i know columbia ed is less selective.. but also for internationals NEEDING AID??? but then taking into consideration that Yale SCEA this year is going to be darn selective.. i really dunno which way to go..

what if someone got into Columbia ED but is not awarded enough aid? Can he apply to other schools regular?

slipper do you mind clearing your PM inbox.. i'll like to PM you..

orite, asking for aid for internationals levels the playing field between columbia and yale, yes you can turn down ed for money issues, but trust me if columbia or yale takes you, they'll give you more than enough aid, you're international from (Brunei?). Now stop incessantly fretting on these board, get some work done, do some research on your own to figure out which one you like better and put in a solid app.

Well, all I can really do it quote statistics, but statistically, Columbia offers a lot more Financial aid than Yale. The average indebtedness after 4 years at Columbia is about $8,000 whereas that of Yale is over $22,000. (I acquired these statistics from www.collegeboard.com.)

But, I definitely have to agree with confidentialcoll. Yale and Columbia are two completely different schools in two completely different environments. Find out which one you like best. If you're living in another country it might be hard to visit the campuses, but there's still a lot of research that can be done online.

i have done more than enough research i supposed.. my recoms are done.. all that's left is to decide between these two unis..

Would Columbia definitely give me enough aid if I were to be accepted? What will happen to my regular decision unis if I were to not be awarded enough aid? Do I still have to withdraw?

Yes, you are allowed to withdraw if you PROVE that the school that accepted you as an early decision candidate did NOT satisfy your "financial need". Your official financial need might be a very different number than the amount of money you think you would need to actually attend college, however. Since most of the top colleges and universities guarentee to meet 100% of your "demostrated financial need", then there is basically no way out. If you get in, you're going, and if paying for it is such an issue, then honestly you should probably be applying regular decision and comparing financial aid packages from various schools.

That said, Yale and Columbia are ENTIRELY different, and there has to be SOMETHING you know about them that puts one clear ahead of the other. The fact that they are Ivy League universities does not make them great choices for everyone, and if you can't decide which one you'd be happier at then I think thats another reason not to apply early. The school you apply early decision to should be one that you are 110% you want to go to, and this case doesn't sound like that.

thats seniors2008.. i have made my decision on the clear no.1 school.. thanks a lot for your advice..
