So I will probably be applying ED to Columbia to this fall and Im working on my resume. Is it ok to submit a resume that will elaborate on my ECs and awards along with my application?

No, it’s not

really?? why not?

for example, on the common app, you are able to, so I figured it was universal practice to attach a resume if you want

They don’t want you to send in your resume. It says so on the application. However, I sent mine in and I was accepted. They’re not going to reject you because you sent in a resume, but only send it in if you feel it will really make a strong difference in your application.

I sent in a resume and was accepted. As did two of my friends.

My school actually requires that we send a resume to all the colleges we apply to (via the transcript packets that they mail in).

Idk about sending in a resume. Sure, it might be nice… but to me it seems kind of redundant since everything you’re filling out on the application would be on your resume anyway.

I didn’t send a resume in and I was accepted.

just to back up what pinkyy said, there’s a reason why Columbia limits the number of ecs you can put in the application: they ONLY want the most significant extracurricular commitments. They really don’t want to read about that semester of recycling club that you dropped after grade 9.

This is a bit irrelevant, but, evillikeahobbit, you have an awesome user name! lol

Follow the instructions. it’s that simple!

It’s OK, but don’t do it unless you absolutely have to because the directions tell you not to.

^Yes, neglect the directions/rules at your own peril.
The point is, don’t overdo something that is completely unnecessary, and that may tick off the readers.

i think its good because i do a lot of diverse things that all cant be elabortated on in an essay or in a letter of rec so thats why i was considering doing the resume because I have accomplishments in areas that I dont have space to write about

I attached a resume and was accepted as well. I would like to clarify, however. I really do not think it really helped, though I had some provincial awards and a couple additional ECs that I was dedicated to. For me, attaching it made me feel that those efforts would be acknowledged, that it would paint a clearer and more diverse picture of me. Perhaps it was more for my (psychological) benefit than for an advantage in the admissions process, but at the time I figured it could not impact negatively (it’s not exactly following instructions, but so many people do it and their motivations are entirely understandable).

Attaching a resume is fine but unnecessary.
