columbia application length

hey so i have a pretty quick question for anyone who is applying to columbia or is familiar with the application.

in order to actually look at the full application, you have to send the fee first. i applied early decision elsewhere but i want to finish up the rest of my apps just in case. so naturally, i'd rather not send them the fee unless i have to (i.e. i dont get in). but right now, i cant see how long to make my answers or any of the little details like that.

what is the word limit for the short answer questions (list your favorite books, etc.) and for the "what is most appealing about columbia" question?

thanks so much!

Hi. Man, I'm on these forums way too often. Chalk it up to being a nervous EDer..

Anyway, to answer your question. 300 chars for the short answers and 600 chars for the 'Why Columbia' question. 250-500 words for the essay, which is basically 'write anything that conveys a sense of who you are to the reader'. The paper copy of the application is here http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/sites/admissions/files/webfm/firstyearapp.pdf with all the prompts.

thank youuu! that helps a lot. good luck with ED!

yeah but the paper copy doesn't have the length of each section haha
I was working based on that paper copy too, before I visited and therefore had decided that I wanted to apply ED, and it killed me to not know how long each section was.
but yeah, the lengths thebeef said.. have fun with that :)

250-500 wordss
