this might not be thread worthy, but just something i noticed.

The people over at the dartmouth board speak better about Columbia than the people here. Kinda strange if you ask me.

any examples?

We’re that great.

We’re humble.

For contrast, check out the Penn board. At least Columbia gets lumped together with all ivy league schools except Princeton, Yale and Harvard.

i honestly have never been to the penn board. i never liked what i heard second hand about penn and didn’t consider applying.

^You should be grateful you haven’t been exposed to the Penn board. You can almost hear the shrill cry of defensive, yet aggressive, stridency of certain posters on the board as you read the words. It’s too bad, as Penn is a fine school. Kudos for (most of) the Columbia posters for recognizing that heart-felt perceptions, coupled with a healthy sense of humility, beats selective “prestige” data every time.

i think columbia posters are also more willing to admit the faults or to say “this experience is not right for everyone.” we are more willing to also have 5 paragraph posts than i read on the Dartmouth board. but you are right, in their succinctness they do praise columbia well. i would argue they do not offer a complete portrait of its goods, its bads, and the reasons why it is better than all other schools.

our job is not necessarily to praise columbia. but to offer a realistic portrayal of what an incredibly nuanced college experience it provides. even slipper’s words are useful, or LionHeaded’s occasional jingoism, colcon’s love of all things wallstreet, C02’s brashness. in a way, we collectively offer you a simulated columbia life. in which we all do not agree with each other (it isn’t some marketing ploy), but debate each other on the board, challenge each other, and ultimately provide compelling reasons as to why columbia is (and always will be) an incredible and unique experience. consider that.

amen to my other hardcore posters.

—yay us!
