Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

I agree with @aniiii that those people received the email not because of their application decision, but simply because they were part of a list generated independently of admissions. But all this is just speculation; we are all just pitiful anxiety-ridden ED applicants

ahh okay thanks @dr0wning . We might just be overreacting a little. Our decisions have been practically made so thereā€™s nothing we can do or change  just the painful wait

This is all stressing me out!! I just have to keep reminding myself that at this point, I have done all that I can!
If you guys get rejected, where else are you thinking of applying?

I decided to read over my entire application to get over the stress about results ā€“ it only made it worse. Much worse

@soph1112 I am applying to Barnard, NYU, and Fordham as well. Obviously I love the city. :x Everyone else?
I like this shift to a more light hearted topic. Iā€™m starting to drive myself insane with stress!

@soph1112 Iā€™ll be hoping for Cornell (legacy might help). If Columbia rejects me, I may not have the heart to go for Harvard, Yale, and such. What about you?

I applied to Fordham early action (nonbinding) and I should get that within the next few weeks! From there, Iā€™ll probably try Cornell, maybe Princeton or Brown? I need to make a list of other options because Iā€™m 99% sure Thursday will be rejection for me :frowning:

To talk about something more lighthearted, where do you guys live? I live in Phoenix!

Thatā€™d be so cool to be a legacy!! Neither of my parents went to college

Well, first-gen is a fantastic hook too!

@soph1112 Iā€™m applying to UChicago (EA) and USC, CMC, Emory, CMU, Brown, Rice, along with a slew of UCs (Berkeley, LA, Irvine, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz).Compared to some other posters my list seems unnecessarily longā€¦
@unready I like your username  Itā€™s not as if I feel unready all the timeā€¦ of course thatā€™s not the reason. at allā€¦

I live in southern California! What about you guys?

@dr0wning Both of our usernames reflect our state of being. :stuck_out_tongue:

Does anyone else feel like Columbia is just as hard to get into as Yale, Harvard, and Princeton, but it doesnā€™t have the same level of prestige? Idk I applied to Columbia ED because I fell in love with the campus and core and it might just be because Iā€™m from the West Coast (Best Coast)ā€¦ Thoughts?

Columbia is ranked 4th on USNWR (which the majority people use to quickly determine how good a school is) so itā€™s not far behind, really. IMO, HYPS is basically its own category but Columbia is almost there? But what would I know, Iā€™m also from the west coast (best coast!)

HYPS hands down the best 4 schools in the US. But to me Columbia just feels right. Yes, Yale is gorgeous, Harvard is rich, Princeton is exquisite, and Stanford is on the ā€œbest coastā€, but the vibrant feelings that I get from Columbia just simply cannot be matched, period

Just out of curiosityā€¦ Does everyone plan to check results by themselves? Iā€™ll be totally stressed out so idk if it will be a good ideaā€¦ Might not have enough guts to log in the status page on the day haha

I think another factor is that HYP have longer traditions of being the best, whereas Columbiaā€™s ranking has been fluctuating between 9-11 ever since 1990 (with the exception of 1996, when they ranked 15th). So in the most recent years, Columbia is considered one of the bestā€¦but not the best of the best, reserved for HYPS and maybe MIT.

Iā€™ll check by myself. Itā€™ll be hard, but not as bad as someone else checking because more suspense. And the pity on their face if/when i get rejectedā€¦

@dr0wning what were your SATs like? Mine was a 2210, but only 1 sitting
