Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

@PilotKhyle Oh I have spent plenty of time on the CUwiki, mostly reading about dorms and food!

@twix123 I’m still searching for whatever happens between acceptance and NSOP… It seems like everyone disappears and forgets to detail what goes down in those 8-9 months (for us ED applicants)

I’m heading off for the night!! Goodnight guys, only a few more days left!

@PilotKhyle Make your first payment, housing and meal plan come after RD admits, so after ED acceptance not much until RD acceptance.

@PilotKhyle I see, that makes sense! lol i started feeling bad about having a private counselor because so many people don’t have it and it’s like… I need this to get into colleges…
The CU Wiki was really helpful when writing my Why Columbia essays, too!

@dr0wning True hahah…I wish the day would just come already it’s all I think about

@mihirt19 I have a countdown app! Only 3 days, 17 hours, 8 minutes, and 5 seconds left!

I know I’m a little late to the game on interviews, but I’d like to weigh in for future/similar kids! I’m not really sure what happened, because everyone else seems to have been contacted by a local alumnus, but I had an online interview with a current Junior who worked in the admissions office.

Did anyone else have a similar experience? Or know why mine happened that way??

Also, hello! This is my first time on this forum, but I’ve loved reading all your comments. I’m so nervous for Thursday!!! X_X

When I checked this thread this morning, the last post was on page 29 and now it is 48…

@crystallemon You should check out Penn’s. The “Social Ivy” is adding 30-50 pages a day.

@toffys Oh wow I guess the applicants of a college really presents a college in some ways lol. I remember asking my interviewer that in his opinion is Columbia more supportive or more competitive and he said without hesitation that it is more supportive. And in this thread it seems like everyone is trying to cheer each other up

@toffys Why am I not even surprised…

I have a question. I go to a boarding school with 58 other students and it turned out that although many of us are applying ED or REA for ivy, I am the only one who applied ED to Columbia. So I guess in this way they won’t be able to compare my GPA with my classmates and will that do any harm to me… Or does that mean I will be deferred (or rejected) no matter how?

I’m still a bit worried that I was never offered an interview.

However, one of my recommendations was written by a Columbia alumnus, so maybe that took the place of it…? He’s my Calculus teacher and majored in Physics there, and I asked him to write me a recommendation and he fully supported me!! Hopefully that helps or makes up for the fact that I didn’t receive an interview.

@crystallemon I’m not sure really… only 1 other person applied to Columbia ED from my school, but I applied to CC and he SEAS, so if there are different admissions officers, they may not be able to compare ours? I’m not sure really. :confused: We’ll just have to see I guess

I’m really just sitting in my room watching my countdown to the decision right now lol

T minus 3 days X_X

Good luck in school this week everyone!!! :slight_smile:

Thanks;) @dr0wning

Oh man everyone sounds so intellectual and qualified… I have a high GPA and SAT score but I go to a public school with little to no opportunity to expand intellectual pursuits around me. Not to mention my extracurriculars are lacking (I’m an officer for two clubs and play a varsity sport but that’s basically it). Super anxious rn
