Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

@soph1112 I just can’t wait until this whole application process to be over. My new motto is: why apply to college when you can jump into a vat of boiling hydrochloric acid and feel the same way?

@dr0wning I’ve been analyzing the statistics non-stop on that website for the past few weeks lololol. Gotta stop thinking about this before I go crazy…

But it’s interesting that on their blog they say that about 170 athletes applied early to Brown this year… I wonder if there are similar numbers for Columbia because that decreases the number of spots drastically.

I should just stop now.

@allista lol, good to know that I’m not the only one who went there. It feels really weirdly desperate to be looking up and analyzing the stats. Also, this is from three years ago- a lot can change in a few years.

@allista How would they know that though? Isn’t it just pure speculation?

@dr0wning quite a lot actually! We have about 40 classes but we have lots of guidance counselors/ subject tutors and stuff. About half of our lessons are conducted lecture-style so its a bit like college!

@dr0wning Apparently they got the information from the Brown Daily Herald: http://www.browndailyherald.com/2015/11/12/ed-plme-applications-fall-by-40-percent/

Don’t worry; I’ve been staring at Naviance graphs and statistics all weekend. The more I analyze the stats, the less I feel qualified as an applicant. Lol

@allista LOL me too. I need to focus on my homework but I can’t do anything by look at statistics and scour Columbia’s website :)) This doesn’t help that I have multiple projects this week and next week is finals

I actually tried looking for Naviance graphs, but my school doesn’t use it, so…
@demostheneslocke What country do you live in, if you don’t mind my asking?

My school’s Naviance graph for Columbia is basically a sea of X’s.

@allista @dr0wning My search history Columbia in nearly every item. Glad to see I’m not the only one obsessively checking stats!

@allista what does that mean? @aniiiii only three days left. relax!

2 days and less than 21 hours. Wow

2 days, 20 hours, 39 mins, 46 seconds to be exact

@dr0wning So Naviance tracks applications from your high school to specific colleges. They plot out every student that has ever applied to for instance, Columbia on a scatterplot based on GPA and SAT scores. There’s a green square if the person was accepted, a blue diamond if waitlisted/deferred, and a red X if they’re rejected.

@allista oh no! Well, I’m sure you’ll be a shining green light in the sea… like the green light in front of Daisy’s house. You’re Gatsby, forever longing for your lost love Columbia…
wow, I really need to sleep more.

@dr0wning Haha, I hope so!

The Great Gatsby is one of my favorites though <3

@dr0wning Violin buddies!! Do you plan on joining orchestra in college? Maybe we’ll see each other in Columbia’s orchestra :slight_smile:

@dr0wning Singapore!

On my financial aid tracker, it only has the “home” button, I can’t track my documents anymore (one of my parents only submitted their taxes today, so I wanted to check). Is this happening to anyone else?

@Ovni12 the last day you could check the status of your financial aid documents was Dec 4, so no need to worry.
