Columbia Class of 2021 ED Applicant Thread

Quick question. I don’t plan on majoring in arts, but one of my ECs is photography. Should I include works of my photography in the arts supplemental submission?

@Pariahs
You could if you think it would strenghten your application, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I have multiple Drama and Art EC’s, and I’m not providing examples of those either, as I don’t plan on majoring them.

I’m thinking of applying to Columbia early decision should I do it?? It’s my first choice but I want to improve sat I got a 1350/1600 rank 3 in class with 4.0 gpa and I have extracurriculars and awards and I’m taking subject tests for math 1 and 2 which I think I’ll do good on

@Tshiknn thanks for your advice :)! I’m waiting on the next SAT score and hoping, as hard as I can, I get around the Columbia University SAT score threshold. Also quick question: does anyone know whether I should submit my AP scores to Columbia in early decision?

@tiare234 it might be a little late if you haven’t started your supplements, if you have done most of them then i would do it otherwise just wait till regular and have great essays

One week left :open_mouth:

Hey guys, my friends who applied ED to Penn have gotten a link to their applicant portal. Has anyone gotten the same for Columbia?

yes got it this afternoon!

Got mine two day ago! But that was like a week after sending in my app so it takes some time.

I submitted four days ago and I got the email with the link today. If you don’t get an email from Columbia within 30 days of submitting your app, let them know.

Hi guys!! I’m from CT and I can’t believe we find out it only a little over a month!!! Is anyone else freaking out ??

I was wondering you guy’s thoughts on if SAT scores are a big factor for Columbia. Mine aren’t great (1350/1600 700- math 650 -reading equivalent to ~2025) but my GPA is 96 unweighted, I’m editor of my school magazine which has won awards, taken 7 APs, varsity athlete and captain, won best speaker at Junior Statesmen of America etc., and my English teacher loved my essays … do you think I have any chance or do my SATs blow it for me? Also has anyone had their interview yet? I have mine Tuesday and I’m not sure what to expect

@ILoveOliviaPope Columbia does very holistic admissions. Sure the SAT plays a big part in admissions, but they’re also looking at what type like as a person. Are you unique enough to add diversity to their school? But tbh it does hurt your app.

I’m still waiting to be contacted for my interview ughhh.

Hi guys- I applied ED, but I couldn’t find anywhere online when the decision notification date is. Does anybody here know? I know it’s far in advance, but I’m already anxious about it and would love to know the exact date.

It hovers near Dec 15. My guess is Dec 16, that Friday. But the date will come out at some point – the Ivies collaborate on the joint announcement date. Be patient.

It’ll come with enough time to apply to others should the result not be what’s preferred.

@t26E4 Actually, the Ivies only collaborate in the spring - they all announce at the same time on the same day. In December, they have their own dates. For example, last year, Penn was Dc. 11th. Some Ivies were before, some were after.

you’re right. Ivy Day is the spring announcement. The EA/ED usually announcement dates closely match but there’s no mandated coordinated date like the one in the spring. I’ll make sure I don’t pass that any further.

@T26E4 No big deal. It’s hard to keep everything straight!

last year was dec 11th i believe

How important is the Columbia Interview to admissions? I think mine went pretty well, he said I “had purpose” and would really love it there. I was just wondering if a great interview could balance out average SAT scores.
