Columbia College Economics/IEOR Joint Program

I just found that joint program on the major listings on the CU website. It really sounds awesome because a) I really do love the theoretical side of economics and b) the IEOR part kinda puts a pragmatic spin on my undergrad education (I-Banking perhaps?). Anyway, do any of you guys know of anyone doing this, or have any insight into how great (or not-so-great) this thing is?

Oh and I also heard that IEOR is the "umbrella major" over concentrations such as Financial Eng. Does anyone know if it's possible to do a Econ/IEOR (with concentration in Financial Eng) joint degree program?

P.S-> Can't wait until August Orientation XD.

I would like to know more about this also. The Columbia website doesn't have much info.

no there is no such thing as econ/ieor with financial engineering. Furthermore, financial engineering (though an option on the application) has to be applied to formerly in a competitive process in your sophomore year.

Did you already get into Columbia College?

The financial engineering program just started this year as a program you apply to as a sophomore. However, the econ-ieor joint major has existed for a while. They include some of the same courses. In fact, you can take some of the same courses if you're an econ major or math major or any other major. There are many different paths into finance jobs if that's what you want, and plenty of opportunities at Columbia to find out about the industry and get internships whatever your major.

Yea foxdie, Columbia College oh-11 =) heh..

congrats. almost any major is fine though, especially if you want to do ibanking division- corporate finance.

what is an umbrella major?
