Vent Alert!
Preparing to submit Columbia College of Chicago this week. S really enjoyed their virtual session on 9/23. However, we realized that combining his two taped dance prescreens would come up short on the “short 90 seconds to 2-minute video in two of the following disciplines you are most comfortable with…” So he contacted his MT coach to check his availability and the dance studio and we filmed it (along with another submission) this past Saturday. This way it would make the self-imposed 10/16 deadline for all of his submissions.
Yesterday (Sun) as we were updating the weekly To-Do list, S asked me to double-check to see if we needed a slate for dance submission. When I checked the website, it was totally different than what I’d originally cut and pasted into my spreadsheet! It looks like on 10/5, they changed the dance requirements and now require applicants to record and submit the 2 combinations that are linked to a YouTube video! We honestly thought we were done! S is a lot calmer about this and said he’s going to email the admission counselor for clarification. Me, I’ve stewed about it all night.
We have a Prescreen Requirements tab on his college spreadsheet. To avoid confusion, I cut and pasted the requirements from either Acceptd or the website. Then he and his MT Coach when over everything. We also scheduled a virtual visit with every school, except OCU (they didn’t clarify much until last week), so he could ask questions. At the CCC one, another student specifically asked about 90s - 2m dance requirement. I know flexibility is important, but now I’m paranoid and to be honest, I want to save studio time (costs) at this point for taping potential auditions. So my main question for the ones that have done this before - is this normal to change the rules in the middle of the game? Did we overlook some fine print?
Thanks for any pearls of wisdom on this one.
