Columbia Dance Program

I know that Columbia's dance program is combined with Barnard's, so would your chances of being accepted be not as high if you are a boy looking to join the dance program? By this I mean, would Columbia be less likely to recruit a male dancer because Barnard runs the program?

I should think the opposite would be true. Talented male dancers are a desired quantity in any dance program! And I would say it’s more accurate to say that the dance program is offered through Barnard, not “combined with” Barnard. The same is true of Architecture majors, FYI. Also, I am not sure “recruit” would be the word to use, either. The dance major at Barnard/Columbia is not one for which you must audition, so it’s not like the program directors are out there recruiting dancers. Which is not to say that there are NOT incredible dancers there----there are!

In my rambling way, I am trying to say that I believe that your being a (presumably) strong male dancer with an interest in a dance major will only help your chances of admission. I don’t see how this could hurt you in any way, if your academics are all up to par.
