Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell

Hey guys! Here are some of my stats:

800 Math SAT
690 CR SAT
760 Writing SAT

770 Math L1 SAT II
720 Chem SAT II

3.9 unweighted GPA at a Prep school in Bronx, NY
No rankings.

I'm also 16, skipped a grade.

6 APs after this year.

What are my chances at:

Yale (EA Deferred)
Dartmouth
Columbia
UPenn
Cornell (Father, 2 Uncles, Aunt, Sister all went)
Stanford
NYU
RPI
Johns Hopkins

??

thanks!

I'm just worried that my CR is too low for Ivies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Extracurriculars? AP scores? SAT 2s? Help us get to know you! Scores aren't everything. Your score isn't too low, unless there's nothing more to you than that!

As for EC's, I am a silver medallist on my crew team, I have been doing orthopaedic research at Columbia-Presbyterian hospital for years, I am president of computer club and math team, I volunteer at a nursing home every weekend, and I helped build some houses in Tennessee.

SAT IIs, as I said before, are 770 (Math 1) and 720 (Chem). I also took Math 2 (720) but don't need it for most colleges.

Essays are pretty good, at least above average, and my recommendations will be fantastic (trust me).

Well?

bump please

The best indicator of your chances is your Yale deferral. I believe Yale accepted 17% and rejected 33%. That means that you are somewhere in the 33rd-83rd percentile of Yale's pool.

So in that context + your stats I would say:

Yale (EA Deferred) - reach
Dartmouth - slight reach / reach
Columbia - reach
UPenn - slight reach / reach
Cornell (Father, 2 Uncles, Aunt, Sister all went) - match (b/c of legacy)
Stanford - reach
NYU - match
RPI - not sure, but I would assume fairly safe
Johns Hopkins - slight reach

it is hard to tell. for ivy league you have to have a lot of extracurricular and you didnt state any. equally important is your essay

what i learned from an alumni at rice, another great school, is that once you are over their sat want (lets say 1400) they look at each kid the same - regardless of a 1410 or a 1570. you really need to show them thatn you are smart AND capable of putting forth your intelligence to do great things in life.

Yale: Reach
Dartmouth: Slight Reach/Reach
Columbia: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Cornell: Match
Stanford: Reach
NYU: Match
RPI: Safe Match
Johns Hopkins: Slight Reach/Match

I don't think Cornell and NYU are in the same category, and since when is Penn more selective than Dartmouth.

slipper1234: I said NYU and Cornell are matches because qwerty693 has legacy at Cornell, so I'd say they are both matches. As for UPenn vs. Darmouth, I'd agree that they are close. UPenn is ranked no. 4 and Dartmouth no. 9 by US News & World Report, so I'd say chances at Dartmouth would be slightly (not much) better than UPenn. Both are reach/slight reaches. Sorry for the confusion.

[I abhor the 'match', 'reach' game, but I'd say you have stronger shots at NYU, RPI, and Cornell]

cool. glad to hear that the EC list is sufficient.
