Columbia decisions by snail mail

Columbia said in their email that they would be mailing decisions out on March 28. Since I live close to New York City, I'll probably get THE LETTER in my mailbox before I can check it online on March 29.

Does anyone know whether Columbia sends out different-sized letters, or do they just play with everyone's mind and send small letters either way?

last year I remember people saying that they checked whether or not they got accepted by calling UPS to see if there was a package for them, so I guess acceptances go by a special delivery service while rejections go by the standard USPS...

I guess Columbia's using DHL this year (according to ED threads).

Accepted students get big envelopes.

What's DHL?

i know that accepted students receive packages

u gotta learn how to use this before u get to college or else u'll fail and/or ask alot of stupid quesitons.

Acceptance in December was DHL big Yellow packages! =)

I live relatively close to NYC (in the 'burbs), but still got my e-mail a few days before the letter arrived. As was stated above, acceptees get a package from DHL, others get a regular sized letter. For e-mail decisions, the subject in all of them is "Columbia University Admissions Decision" regardless of the decision...but if you've got gmail you'll find out the decision in the preview.

haha tape a piece of paper over the right side of your monitor if youhave gmail. I have to say it's kinda anticlimatic waiting for years and hitting refresh and preparing yourself and all of a sudden you see the "Columbia University Admissions Decision" followed immediately by a "congratulations" in the grey preview on Gmail =/

Anticlimactic, yes, but so sooo nice. :)

You'll still get the hardcopy decision after you get it in the email. They send out the packages and the emails at roughly the same time so you've gotta wait at least one day for DHL to deliver it.

Who was that guy who invented the DHL theory during the ED round? Apparently you could use some number to check whether or not there'll be a package coming to your area.

^ It's true, but honestly, it's nto worth the time and effort. Just wait an extra day.

Seems like such a long wait and will be over in days. Good luck to all those waiting on a response. Daughter waiting to hear from her top schools this week. Trying to disguise my nerves!

Nono, it is worth my time, ^^. But do you know how to do it?

i thought we had to enter our PIN number on their site to see our online decisions. i think thats wut it said on their email

Thanks, everyone! Whether or not I find out by snail mail before email, I'd like to wish everyone GOOD LUCK!

Good luck everyone!

The email stated that "You can receive your admission decision online. We plan to post all admissions decisions here on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 6:00pm (Eastern Time)." so I think we're checking online.

yep, same with me!
