How are Columbia’s dorms? Are there any with views of the city, or some types of nice views?
@peggy1996, Columbia’s dorms are quite variable in level of renovation, room size, dorm style (suites, corridor rooms, living learning centers, etc.). The good news is that Columbia has quite a few singles. Some rooms on the higher floors can offer nice city views. In my opinion, though, it might be better to live in a room facing campus because the surrounding city, especially ambulances going to and from Mt. Sinai-St. Luke can be very loud. When my daughter was there, she had a gorgeous, upper-floor view of campus.
From her freshman experience, if she had returned this year, she would have liked a room in John Jay or Wallach. She described Wallach as a much nicer, renovated, well-maintained version of Hartley. Although she liked the more modern rooms at Carman, she admitted that the dorm might have been too noisy for her. I don’t think she considered Furnald because of its reputation as a dorm with students keep to themselves.
