Columbia Dream Crushed... I think!!!!

@helloimchelsea- ironic how you basically have the same stats as me right now. Lol athough, I haven’t gotten my sophmore grades yet, I’m expecting one B :frowning:
But yeah next year mostly honors and AP classes for me too except for creative writing.
Good luck on the ACT, I hope you do well and get the score you want.

And thanks to everyone else for your advice :)

■■■■. Build a bridge and get over it, drama queen.

okay Doener…why so mad? if you think I’m a drama queen then why waste your time answering.

EliKresses, “Harvard College” is fine…

Everybody should kiss and make up. Why so much hate on these forums?

@ComaPrison, I know, I don’t understand why some people on CC are so hateful and try to bring others down. Like I understand people stating their opinions on things but no need to be go over the top and call names.
And the one thing I don’t understand, is why they take their time out to comment of people’s threads just to call them names… like do you have nothing better to do

My guess is that for a lot of them, they just have stress/anger/frustration/resentment (about other stuff) that they feel like taking out on anonymous strangers on the internet.

In any case, they’re probably not happy. In my experience, happy people tend to lift up the spirits of other people who are around them. Unhappy people drag others down. I have yet to see happy people pushing others down, or unhappy people pushing others UP.

^^true but that’s just them. And I hate how they do it over the internet, if it was face to face no one would even speak. But that’s just immature people these days. When I joined CC I thought everyone would act like college bound students (smart, respectable ect…) and some do while others act like they just started middle school.

There’s no hard deadline for immaturity to end. For a lot of people it is still there in college and even beyond.

Remember that almost 94% of applicants are rejected from Columbia. That’s such an absurdly high number that obsessing over tiny differences in scores doesn’t make much sense. There are plenty of applicants with 4.0s who are rejected, and even many with 2400 SAT scores. In that admissions context, it probably doesn’t make a difference if you get a B instead of A. I don’t think you should take that cynically, but optimistically. Realizing that one grade doesn’t matter frees you to pursue your passions and have a good time in high school, which is what will make you a compelling applicant. You need to have confidence, passion, interests, and a good story that shines through in your essays, coupled with great academic performance as measured by GPA and SAT scores. You have to impress the admissions committee, not freak about GPA minutiae. So don’t worry. You probably won’t get in—not because you’re a weak applicant, but because you only have a 6/100 chance of getting in—but that doesn’t mean you should give up. Just try to do as well as you can academically, but also pursue the extracurricular opportunities that interest you and live your life.

^^definitely. I’m more focused on my ECs and my writing because ultimately that’s what I’m going to do in life(write) Reading over m post I realize I do sound a bit crazy but I’m over it and a bit over Columbia. It’s still my dream school but is not my life dream. Trying to be perfect academically isn’t going to help me, trying to be myself and with the good grade probably will. Thanks for the advice

WriterColumbia, just ignore the ■■■■■■. You definitely have a chance, and don’t think that taking a lot of AP’s means that you’ll get in. Take me for an example: 4/530+ (took 14 AP’s in total, 1 in 9th, 3 in 10th, 5 in 11th and 12th) and I got waitlisted. I believe if you make yourself different from the group, then you can make it! I was just unlucky and got waitlisted (didn’t accept waitlist because I got Harvard)

@other people who were bashing on Harvard: Just because it has a high price tag / good name doesn’t mean people go there because of the name only. I decided on Harvard for various of reasons, such as its strong Political Science program / club system, along with its ties to MIT and New England Conservatory (since I’m interested also in Mathematics and Music). Not only that, there are ways to get around the cost. Harvard provides almost full-ride to people below 60k (I’m below it) so they gave me a full-ride. Not only that, but my financial situation caused me to look for scholarships which I gained. Don’t presume that people who accept Harvard go for the name (of course there are people that do so, but not everyone)

Don’t worry, you still have a chance. There is no set GPA in order to get into Columbia. When you apply, a variety of factors come into play. Your still have a change, and rock your Junior year! :)
