I applied around March 1st to Columbia GS for the EA deadline and I'm STILL not hearing back from them. I called about a week ago and my application is still "under review." I keep hearing reports from guys on CC who got calls from the GS office mere weeks (or less) after they submitted their applications telling them they were accepted. This is getting me worried.

Do any of you guys at GS have experience in having a long wait time in getting the news back as "accepted". This is driving me nuts.

Oh and about me, I have about a 3.8 from a Top 50 school (before I left) and have been out of school for 2 years. Judging from GS, I thought this would be relatively straightforward but I guess not...

I’m still waiting on my decision. Had my interview about 4 days ago, I called them today and they said letters are going out for EA … waiting and more waiting …

So I’m assuming that if EA letters are being sent out today and if we haven’t gotten a call then its just waiting for the bad news…

To cut the suspense short, maybe I will call and just ask them to give me the bad news right away. Oh and floatus, just out of curiosity, what are your stats? There seems to be a large measure of randomness with how they’re approaching admissions. I thought I was a shoo-in but maybe not.

I have a 3.8 from a good college, am 23 years old, 2 years Army (NCTS), etc

****ing hell man this wait is killing me as well. My stats are 3.8 from a state college, 26 yrs old and 4 years in the Army. Started multiple businesses, powerful essay … i had weak SAT and HS transcripts, but that was years ago.

Have you tried calling admissions and just asking if you’re in? haha

I didn’t call because by the time I came on here - it was over 5pm in NY. The news of something in the mail irks me - I think an email notification would be better. I live in California so its going to be a good 3-4 days before I find out.

Out of curiosity for you military guys - what were your MOS’s?

I know my MOS is not going to get a lot of love here - 31B, in the active reserves now.

If we get rejected, I just don’t know why - GS must be looking for something in their student body that just eludes guys like us. I had a 3.8 from UC-Davis back in the day. Majored in Political Science, I had great recs. Did NCS mostly because I was just bored with college life.

i got email response this morning… (may 1st @ 9 am PST)

the rep said the admission committee was hoping to send out decisions by this week. and she said that I should be able to get something by early next week…

im just…really thinking that’s rejection letter here… so nervous.

btw… do you mind sharing email with me? it’s quite strange to talk over threads… and you seem to be the one who really cares about GS like me…

haha yeah, perhaps if you’ve lasted this long then you’ve made it … at this point I just would like to find out where I’m moving to, I want to start packing already!

Personally, I dont really think your MOS is going to be a huge decision maker. But I was accepted, and was (am) a 25F, which is a Network Switching Systems Operator. I was active for 4 years and then inactive reserve for 2. I just recently got called up for mobilization am in Kuwait right now.

My stats were:
Math and reading SAT scores were in the 90th percentile, but my writing score wasnt. So I tried to supplement it with teacher recommendations focusing on writing ability.
3.6 from a community college (but was a 3.9 for the past year, 31 credits)
Took classes while working full time as a software developer.
Studied abroad at a foreign university out of pocket for language immersion.
Dropped out of high school with a 0.7 and took the GED test at 16. (delinquent)
Wrote the optional essay.

Yeah, I don’t think MOS counts that much but 25F? Regardless of GS, it’s a hell of a lot more marketable than being a 31B. However, I think combat deployments might count for something as well as having a combat MOS.

jbkcrew, sent you a pm man.

It’s funny but I am also still harboring a little bit of hope from that post where someone applied EA but already got rejected. However, this just may mean that a mass deferral is just in place. If that’s the case, waiting till June to find out… it seems really harsh to make me wait that long if I were to get rejected.

Yeah I’m with all you guys on this one though - if we get rejected (floatus, jbkcrew amongst others) I just don’t know what was lacking in my app. Hopefully they’ll at least let me know what my problem was.

MOS probably isn’t considered, no one outside of the military knows what it is anyway.

But wikki I think you’re right, combat deployments could count a bit, as it adds more experience to your bio.

My strong point is that I was lucky enough to get 2 deployments and stationed in Europe for the rest of the time, learn a language and “see the world”. Will it be enough? Ugh… who knows.

Did everyone get a phone interview? Is there a consensus that you get a phone call before they send a fedex packet as well? Or maybe not for EA GS?
