Hey, so I'll be applying Early Decision at Columbia this November, and I'm starting to worry due to my subject test scores. I have Lit at 650, World at 660 and US at 650. I'll retake US and do better after studying I'm sure, but let's assume I don't do better. Those aside, I have a SAT 1 of 2260 (Reading 750 Math 800 Writing 710) and am 8th in my class with a 4.7. Senior courseload is all AP (speaking of which aren't very hot either, 7 scores, 3 4s and 4 3s) and I have a smattering of extracurriculars (leading clubs, moderate community service, job, etc.). Please let me know how substantiated my worries are!

AP test scores really aren’t all that important, but I would really advise you to retake your subject tests and at least end up with a 750+ on one or two of them. You’re SAT Reasoning Score is fine, and you don’t need to look into ACTs, so if you were to spend the two months or so, you should end up alright.

The real problem that I see is the “smattering of extracurriculars”, but that’s not really something that can be fixed in three months.

Thank you! It’s nice to get that thought on the SAT IIs confirmed. Also, I apologize, I suppose I used the wrong word to describe my extra-curriculars. I feel I have more than enough outside activities. It’s actually to the point that I had to drop something this year.
