Columbia ED - chances?

Hello, i'm a new user and after looking at how much everyone knows around here, i was hoping you could give me advice in regards to my chances to columbia college, music major, early decision. thanks so much!

i go to a public high school:
GPA: 3.7 unweighted
Rank: 6/313
SAT I: 2200 [M800 V710 W690]
SAT II: Math IIC: 750, Chem: 660 [retaking in november]
AP: Physics: kinematics:5, E&M:4
Calc BC: 5 on AB and BC

Classes:
Frosh: Honors route, highest offered at my school, all A's
Soph: AP History, Honors everything else, for an elective i chose a JUNIOR course, Hon Physics...and got a B in Hon Phys, Hon Chem, Hon Alg2Trig, AP History =[...my worst year bc i realized i couldnt handle everything
Jr: Honors everything except AP Music Theory, AP US Hist, AP Physics, AP Calc BC...i skipped precalc over the summer by self-studying, got a B+ in hist, A- in physics, B- in calc although i got a 5 on the ap
Senior: all APs

Extracurriculars:
i'm in everything orchestra-related [chamber strings, quartet, pit orchestra, community orchestra, tutor students in school and during summer], number one violinst in my school, number 1 or 2 violinist in North Jersey Region Orchestra, top 10 violinists in all-state orchestra, and i was accepted to Governor's SChool of the Arts [top 4 violins in the state make it in]

BASICALLY...i'm a music fanatic, i've self-taught violin for 9 years after i had a teacher for 1 year, ive been playing since i was 7...so 10 years

i think i have something unique when it comes to music...esp the self-teaching part, i think...and columbia likes independent individuals...but i'm not sure, still.

columbia early? please comment, thank you!!

columbia ed: 15%

I would think closer to 30%... the normal RD acceptance rate is 11% ish, but your 3.7 hurts.

is my gpa the only factor that would lead you to say the percentage is so low? could you elaborate a bit?

thanks for the imput

Well, thats part of it, but the 1510 on math-verbal kinda makes up for it. Also, your E.C.s are extensive, but its ONLY music, which makes them only a little above average for Columbia. They would be much better if you had even a little more variety. In addition, the ED for Columbia was a massacre last year(see the old threads through a search). Even the best got denied, so no ones chances are great. But remeber, I am just a high schooler who has read books, about elite college admissions; Columbia could very well be looking for an elite violinist- you just never know. Good Luck!

thank you so much. that helped a lot =]

and btw, i didn't add this, but i've been tutoring violin since freshman year, spent my summers volunteering at music camp, founded a club at my high school - contemporary controversies - was in math club for 4 years, on principal's student advisory board, a member of the Fed Challenge team, NHS, cofounder of Academic Decathalon

i don't know if this is just a mediocre list...my passions do reign in music, so i spent most of my time doing the one thing i loved most. hence the music major at columbia.

other comments? thanks

bump......

your profile is certainly impressive. the whole music aspect is very good and you have a lot to show for it. you have awesome grades and an alright gpa for an ivy league. i would say your gpa is gonna hurt you but everything else is nothing but good! early decision you have to have a chance, because my friend got in regular decision last year and he had a strikingly similair profile to you. good luck!

Haha we've taken almost the same courses. And we're both from Jersey! Noice.

thanks guys for the imput, you've helped me tremendously.

i was wondering though, how much sat iis would benefit or hurt me...esp that 660 in chem =</p>

and im applying to some other schools regular: yale, rice, tufts, jhu, duke, dartmouth, brandeis, upenn. could i get input in regards to which ones would be good match, safeties, and reaches?

thank you all so much

bump again =X
