@yellowboy
Since I want to be a writer, I naturally put a lot of work into my supplements. I think they’re the highlight of my application, and I’m very proud of what I wrote.

For my “Why Columbia” essay, I talked about how Columbia was a great place to study a foreign language. Columbia is very culturally diverse, and I think that would enhance the study of a language. I want to major in French, so I also mentioned that there is a lot of French culture on and off campus (like at La Maison Française). I also talked about the Core, and how I think it would mold me into a well-rounded person.

I got an interview invitation yesterday, and just confirmed it today! My interviewer doesn’t live in the same state as me, so we’re going to talk via Skype on Tuesday. I’m so nervous! Does anyone have any tips?

I still can’t find anywhere when we decision notifications come out. On Columbia’s website it says mid December but for some other ivies it’s December 15. Does anyone know what time Columbia would release it?

@sparkl3 “Admission decisions for first-year candidates who apply Early Decision are typically available on or before December 15”, from the Columbia website (I think you asked the same question a couple of posts back!) :)

I heard that they don’t interview everyone. If you’re a candidate that they don’t consider at all you most likely won’t get an interview. For international students it might be different.

@barca03 Where did you get this information? If you don’t get an interview it’s probably because of alumni problems. They can’t interview thousands of students.

@wilguen Exactly, they can’t interview every student so they need to eliminate some besides the ones who can’t have it due to alumni problems. Why would an Ivy League school interview a student with a 1500 SAT score or a 3.3 GPA?

@barca03 They do NOT revoke interviews for the applicants just because they do not have the sufficient grades. Once the application is submitted, a database is created so that the interviewers could reach out to the applicants.

I applied to the undergraduate school with my major as architecture. I had to submit a portfolio. Will this put me in separate bracket for admissions?

@duude2297 I think the same adcom looks at your applications but they do take your intended major into consideration. For Columbia, the only two separate brackets are CC and SEAS.

@barca03, echoing what Viphan said, brief applicant profiles are uploaded (without grades/scores) and volunteer alum interviewers choose them. Then the contact info is forwarded to the alumnus. No grades, no pre-screening. The super slam dunk kid may not get interviewed while the zero-chancer gets interviewed almost immediately. That’s how it goes.
