I’m a junior in a strong/competitive high school (ranked 13th in NJ and about 171st nationally). I’ll be applying to Columbia Early Decision this winter.

GPA Weighed (this is what my HS sends them, but no class rank): 4.2/5.0
GPA U/W: 3.6

ACT: 35 (35 E, 35 M, 33 R, 36 S)

GPA is low but everything else seems fine.

Extracurriculars are weak for the college. Colleges look at extracurricular impact, not how many things you do. Also, it seems like you have no specific major you want to do because you have an internship at capitol hill and you attended a neuroscience camp. Your GPA is also really low. Legacy won’t make that much of a difference as you think. It will only help if you’re comparable to another applicant, but you have legacy. Your chances are very very low, but it is always worth a shot. Good luck!

Can you swim for them? If your team is 25 in nation- that doesn’t mean anything- its your swim times that will matter That would give you a better chance… Have you contacted the swim coach? that would be my advice.

I would be worried about those sophomore and freshman year grades. Great ACT score, try to write great essays that talk about your true focus.
