I applied to Columbia ED and just recently, they emailed my counselor asking more about me. My counselor told me that she bragged about my acccomplishments, so I don't think they were requesting missing materials. What should I make of this? I've never heard of this before. Does it foreshadow impending deferral? Rejection?

Thanks for the input.

That’s exciting! I would take it as a good sign that they are still considering you.

well, it’s not rejection because otherwise they wouldn’t be asking your counselor when they could just defer you. but the fact that columbia is emailing your counselor means that you are likely to get accepted, you just needed a little boost to get you in. it’s good that your counselor bragged on you, too. good luck!

It’s hard to interpret that call as anything other than positive. My guess is you have an EC or other attribute that’s somewhat subjective in nature or otherwise hard to verify – e.g. you claim to have started your own company (as opposed to you won Siemens, where they can just check a list and they know it’s a big deal).

This is impossible to answer because it’s not clear what Columbia actually asked. It’s wholly speculative.

This is a total non sequitor.

It’s not really a nonsequitur. If they emailed my counselor solely to request missing materials, she likely would have given the materials to them without any additional input.

The fact that she bragged on me implies that Columbia wasn’t looking for a missing school report or anything like that. She actually told me that they emailed asking for more information.

And yes, I believe that it’s difficult to answer – hence my posting this thread.

basing their acceptance/rejection on what your counselor thinks, whether he/she is in a good mood and whether you have a good/bad relationship with just this one person seems a little weak to me…

TheAscendancy, after all of this did you get accepted?

Yes, the person whom TheAscendancy was talking about did indeed get accepted. :)
