The essay I wrote for Columbia is 790 words, but it's 1.5 pages at 1.5 spacing. Can I submit it at this length or should i try to cut it down more?

Thanks in advance

You may submit whatever you want.

As has been articulated before here - recommendations vary. I like when essays are easy to scan and limited to one page.

A bigger question - can you say what you have in 790 words in 500? My guess is yes. If you can’t, then it might be too complex even for the prompt. You don’t need to share your life and more than likely there are parts in your essay you like, but are superfluous to your argument.

Does this mean you HAVE to bring it down, of course not. I just know when it comes to developing a narrative argument appropriate for the essay, 500 words surprisingly is a pretty perfect amount of space.
