Columbia for undergrad

How's the Columbia undergraduate experience as opposed to other top schools? Is it as strong as a place like, say, Princeton? How is it different?

It’s the best ever. Even better than the 1570 era Cambridge experience.

depends on what you’re looking for in a school. community feel? people empty out of campus to explore cities? programs?

It’s the bee’s knees! It’s better than living in a Franciscan monastery!

it’s almost like having a homeless person beat up by a bunch of drunk aggressive cops, except being that homeless person!

Freshman year, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaves your testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it’s breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

This article sums a good part of the experience up pretty well.

[The Columbia Commandments](the-fed.org)

(Is it me or is the Fed criminally underrated on campus? They’ve made me laugh a lot more than Jester those last few issues of the year)

The Jester itself is a joke.

The Fed waxes and wanes with its editing crew’s alcohol supply, but the Jester hasn’t been something of note since the 80s, it seems. Unlike Harvard’s Lampoon, being an older institution seems to have ossified the Jester a little bit.

Yeah, we seem to go through highs and lows in terms of on-campus funnies. The last Varsity show was…unpleasant.

Yes, but the 2008 V-Show was AMAZING. I think the Jester was much stronger my freshman and soph years than this past year…

I got a few issues of the Jester at DOC and I found one quite funny and the others rather repetitive and crude.

Are the Varsity shows usually much better than this year’s? I saw the preview at DOC and the guy who played Dean Quigley was hilarious.

I got an issue of the Columbia porn magazine at DOC. THAT was interesting…

I think they fluctuate in quality. Every few years you’ll get a really good one but the rest are mediocre to bad.

I must have missed that table :(

You have to be insane to at least turn down going to an Ivy in NYC as opposed to Hanover, Providence, or Ithaca.
