Does anyone know if the same policy also applies to Fu students? I plan to take some college math and computer science courses from EPGY over the summer but don't know if they count toward any credits in Columbia.

"In addition, the College will consider a maximum of 6 points for college courses taken after graduation from secondary school and prior to matriculation at Columbia."

Also, can anyone (preferably graduates from Columbia) tell me the difficulty or possibility of graduating from Columbia in 3 years? I want to shorten my undergrad years b/c I enter college at a pretty old age. (Pls don't say sth. like "why would you want to graduate in 3 yrs" that sort of stuff. I have the right to make my own decision)

Thanks!!!

Doable if you 1) plan it out carefully and don’t screw yourself over by not taking prerequisites and having scheduling conflicts, 2) place out of some stuff and/or have some AP credits, and 3) take a more than normal SEAS load (at least 20-21 rather than a more normal 17-18).

All outside credits need to be approved by your departmental adviser before they can be applied to your degree. This usually involves showing the syllabi. Worst case they won’t count as anything, medium case they will count as electives, best case they will get you out of the class at columbia covering the same things.

First of all, never ever call SEAS Fu. That’s just Fu-king ridiculous.

Secondly, from what I’ve heard, it’s pretty rigorous to graduate early in SEAS. There isn’t a huge body of students so many prerequisite classes are offered once a year. For example, I’m majoring in Operations Research and need to take Stochastic Processes first semester. However, it conflicts with another class. In order to graduate, I have to sacrifice that other class because Stochastic Processes is offered once a year by one teacher and every other major requirements builds off of that.

This is true for many other majors as well. Just plan it out and know what you want to do. Then prepare to take 6-7 classes per semester. Don’t look at credits because my CC friends take 20-21 credits and breeze by. If you do this in SEAS, you will most likely have to study a lot. Taking 7 or 8 classes is absolutely ridiculous.
