Columbia Graduate school

Hello all!

I am a freshman this year at The University of Texas at Austin. In four years I will graduate with a BS in Communication (film) and a BA in English lit. In the last year I have become well acquainted with what makes a strong candidate for acceptance into college as an undergraduate. I want to start early working on my graduate school portfolio because I am determined to go to Columbia. (AMAZING interdisciplinary program that I am in love with).

Basically: What things can I do starting now to make myself into a perfect Columbia grad school candidate? So far I can think of...
1. Stellar grades
2. Hands on experience with internships

Not really sure if it's the same "EC's, honors clubs, well rounded" type of thing that was needed on college apps. Any info you can give me on what gets students into IVY grad schools would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

One of the most important things in applying to graduate schools is the letters of recommendation. Work early and hard on getting to know a couple of professors well enough that they will be able to write strong letters for you. It would be optimal if you could know them for more than one course or in more than one context, for example, as a research assistant or something like that. Letters of recommendation aren’t that important, really, when you apply as an undergraduate but are crucial for admission to graduate programs.

incoming Graduate student for this fall 2010. i was placed on the UAH waitlist position 164!!..what are my chances of getting housing?

Yeah I would like to go there too! I’m from berkeley. Do I need to get a job, do community service, clubs, etc.? What actually goes on the application? Is it similar to high school as far as applying?
