I submitted my application by the March 1st deadline but I’ve yet to hear anything back. I emailed the department yesterday asking when I might get a response but I’ve not had a response yet. Is anyone else in a similar situation? I’m a bit troubled by the lack of communication.
yellowstone99 or anyone-- Will you very kindly share interview questions and comments? Much appreciated. I wonder what the acceptance rate is for those who are interviewed… Anyone else still waiting for May 1 reply?
I would definitely recommend calling over emailing. The couple times I’ve needed to contact them calling has been lot more effective. Good luck, everyone!
@jc0611 @yellowstone99 Thank you guys I finished my interview, and I feel most of his concern was to figure out if I’d taken offer from another school already. Other than that he did ask some question which felt more like chitchat:
Favorite book
Why this major
Why Columbia
Do I need housing
Good luck to you guys with your interview and application!
For those admitted, I wonder what are the financing options, coz I’m international student, and the school has merit based schollarship instead of need based, I wonder if that has an impact on people who can’t afford it.
@Holatree Thank you soo much for sharing your experience!!! i really appreciate it. I have mine tomorrow morning.
Hi guys, I also got an offer for an interview. Thank you so much @Holatree for giving us insight – I have mine next week!
@ldub9715 Thank you for the advice! I ended up calling yesterday and was eventually told that my application response was delayed but they couldn’t give me any more details. So if anyone else is waiting and hasn’t been offered an interview then it’s likely you’ll be told next week at some point.
Just had my interview with Admissions Director.
Pretty straightforward, asked why Columbia/GS, high school, the “spotty” parts of my application, how many credits would I take if accepted.
Said they’ll let me know within 2 weeks.
Hi guys I just finished my interview and she was really nice so don’t be nervous about the interview. She also told me that I have to wait at least one week for the final decision. Good luck guys!!
Anybody in the regular decision period heard? The website says they start responding May 1 (for regular decision) so I’ve been checking my emails every 15 minutes for the last 5 days!! :))
I applied RD, submitted my application 4/18. However, I’m currently panicking because I don’t have a one-year-gap in my education, or a compelling reason for attending school part time. I went to HS in South America, and straight to college after that for two years. After finishing my second year of college (Dec 2014), I started working full time to save money to move to the US. I moved here in June 2015, and enrolled at a local community college in august. I attended school part-time the first year due to out of state tuition costs. Do you guys think that automatically disqualifies me for admissions at gs? I currently hold a full time job and go to school full time as well, but since I support myself financially, I have attended school part-time a few semesters even after being charged in-state tuition.
@pablorodriguez5 I definitely am not an authority, but I bet that is ok! They might ask for an interview to discuss the details, but you are definitely still a non-traditional student. I have read of other people getting in with less than a year gap. Good luck!
@ldub9715 Thank you! I wasn’t sure if I was still qualified for GS, but your reply gave me hope haha. Do you know if, in the event of being asked for an interview, it has to be in person? I live in California
@pablorodriguez5 Definitely not! People frequently do phone interviews
I got in!!!
Hi @yellowstone99, I didn’t get an acceptance letter yet but did receive an acceptance reply form. Are you in a similar situation?
@88997654 yess I did not get the letter either but I think I got inhahaha
Wow, I actually got in. Started my app on 12/27, got a decision 5/11. Been a long 4.5 months.
Hi everybody! Congratulations for everybody that go in! I got in as well and I am wondering where we would find the major we have been accepted into or would it just be the major that we selected during the application process?
@JambaJuiceLover Congratulations to you! Information on majors is here - http://bulletin.columbia.edu/general-studies/undergraduates/degree-fulfillment/major/declaring-major-concentration/# . As far as I know, you aren’t obligated to choose the major you selected during your application.
