These academic planning sessions are filling up fast !!
Hi Mamabear336,
I am a fellow recently admitted BMCC transfer student as well. I would love to connect with you! I am still waiting on my financial aid packet, but I’m not particularly optimistic based upon what I’ve heard.
Hey everyone,
I finally received my financial package today. I received a merit from my previous college but it was dispersed by Columbia. Did anyone else receive this? I am wondering if I am still eligible for a separate merit from Columbia not involving my previous college.
How long did it for your official transcripts to get to Columbia? I sent mine on July 29, and it’s been 6 days but I still have the red Xs in my portal. Getting worried since school is near and I would also like to know my credit transfer evaluation. I’ll definitely call soon.
Mine took about a week & a half … My red Xs were there until they sent me the evaluation. Doesn’t hurt to call & check the status, but maybe give it a few more days.
@Kmag22 Thanks for letting me know. I’ll give it a week or so.
Did anyone take the math placement exam or know about it? How was it?
@Mabbbs Do we have to take one? I thought we only have to take ALP essay exam?
@dreambigg @Mabbbs what is the ALP and why am I not aware of it?!
Hey @aogiri Its a essay test that required for every admitted student. If you get lower than score 10 then you will have to take non-credit writing class. If you pay attention your welcome package there is ALP
@aogiri Idk about the ALP exam, but the math placement test is for placing you into a math course (it depends on your course selection). So if you want to take Calculus I, you’ll have to pass two math exams, and if you don’t pass them, you’ll have to take 1-2 courses (depending on your score) before being able to take Calculus.
@Mabbbs oh there is math test too? I didn’t see that in my welcome package. Do we also have to take them now?
Hi! There are Math tests but that’s for people who did not take pre-calc or Calculus I in their previous school. If it’s not in your welcome package then you do not need to take any.
Hi… thank you so much for your info… @nrivera12 . Yeah I don’t have it there, but I didn’t either pre-calculus. I took “advanced math for cs” do you think they considered that class as pre-calculus and waived from me?
@aogiri The ALP exam is for students whose native language is not English. You need at least a 10 to be “pass” and enroll in UW. If you obtain an 8 or 9 you’ll have to take an academic writing class that IS credit bearing ( 3cr)
@dreambigg So there are two Math tests one that would land you in pre-calc and the second one (if you pass the first test) will land you in calculus I. I took both in my previous college and they transferred. I never saw them in my required tests like the ALP which I had to take. I am guessing they would show on your accepted student portal if you need it them. Do you have an assigned advisor? Your advisor would be able to tell you if need to take these exams.
@nrivera12 thanks again, I see… I don’t think I have assigned advisor yet, cuz I didn’t submit acceptance form. Waiting for my financial aid package… I can’t do anything without it… not even planning session stuff… I started get very anxious now that I would have to do everything in the last minute
@dreambigg I pay attention to most things. You made me panic lol but there’s nothing about that in my welcome package. According to a poster above, it’s for non-native English speakers so it is absolutely not a requirement for every admitted student.
@nrivera12 thanks for letting me know. No wonder I did not see anything about it in my portal.
Oh ok… sorry @aogiri
