Columbia GS Fall 2020 Early Action/Regular Decision Thread

I got accepted as well!! Congrats to everyone who got accepted! I’m interested in a Facebook group as well!!

I got the same Email as well. So weird, what does it mean ? I was applied to The school of gs as well. Let’s see what they say

Ah luckily when I logged in and clicked further I saw the correct letter, that must have been a glitch. That’s funny. I was like… I’m definitely not qualified for pre-med lol.

I can’t wait to meet you all! I’d love to connect on FB and hopefully meet up for drinks when NYC is back open again.

I got accepted!!! so happy

I’m not sure if it will post because of the link, but I started a group on Facebook “Columbia GS Fall 2020” (I know, we can change it to a more suitable name later). It’s just to get us started. My name on Facebook is Alexis Nandalal

I got accepted! omg I ugly cried and everything! I’m so happy right now.

Hey, where can I see the correct letter?

My Facebook is giving a lot of problems so I deleted the group. Maybe someone else can start it?

When you log into the accepted students portal and look under acceptance letter, it has the correct info

I made a Facebook group! Search: Columbia University GS Fall 2020

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!! Would you mind posting stats?

@llinrs Hey! Thanks for making the group… haven’t been able to find it though! Is there a way I can give you my name and have you request me?

@mathymagee Hi! Brief version of my stats: White working class female. I have lived in NYC the last 8.5ish years, run my own business in the manufacturing sector of the fashion industry and I teach two classes at FIT. I am originally from Montana, had all honors/AP in high school with a 3.8 GPA and I took the SAT this last December and got a 1430

For all of you who have been accepted so far, how is the financial aid?

Accepted! Here are my stats for reference:
27 yrs old, hispanic female, dropped out of college in 2014 with terrible grades, decided to work instead to help my family financially. I had been out of school 5 years before starting back up at the JuCo in 2019. 4.0 GPA during my time at JuCo. While in school full-time I was also working full-time as a flight attendant and was a teaching assistant for the math department (still am). I made President’s List all 4 semesters at JuCo and I’m a PTK member. I submitted my ACT scores (26). High school gpa was 2.63 unweighted and I graduated high school in 2011. I’m from Florida and have been here since I moved from Colombia in 2001 as a kid.

Accepted on 4/29

Stats:

32 year old working-class Asian female
-First Gen.
-Los Angeles resident, CA Comm. College transfer
-High School GPA: HORRIBLE, like 2.8.
-Cumulative GPA from Comm. College: 3.54 (but this includes a lot of nontransferable courses all throughout the years in the trades like woodworking, automotive paint, and many art and design classes I took just to take so my grades didn’t matter)
-PTK Honors Society
-Typeface Design Certificate from Cooper Union

I dropped out of art college after 2 years in 2009, partially because of the 2008 financial crisis.

I run my own creative business and I am a CA Licensed Contractor - licensed, bonded, insured to work on construction sites as I paint large-scale murals, signage, and graphics. I also do other custom lettering and design work. I hire a lot of students and recent graduates to help me with my work and to learn the trade. Clients include Starbucks, WeWork, Esquire, Lucky Brand, The Wing, etc.

I love what I do but decided to go back to school for a career change because of a horrible life-changing traumatic incident that occurred while I was in NY for 5 weeks for a program at Cooper Union in New York. I now want to pursue a degree in law after I receive my Bachelor’s.

I have a wide range of extracurriculars - event judging, panel discussion moderator, oral history research project that is archived at UNLV, teaching assistant, art shows, publications, pro-bono work, volunteer work, etc.
