Columbia GS Fall 2020 Early Action/Regular Decision Thread

Do you guys know if there’s any chance of getting decisions before the deadline of June 1st?? (I submitted my application by the end of April)

If you schedule an appointment or email gs, you can ask them to expedite your decision.

Did anyone receive their financial aid information yet? How much are you guys expecting to pay?

@agpup123 , did you ask them to expedite your decision when you applied? how long it took them to respond you? did you get accepted? I don’t want to ask then get rejected…

I submitted my app on May 15. I made a phone appointment a few days later and asked for an expedited decision because of other decision deadlines. The officer was very nice and said he will add me to the list of expedited decisions, and that I should expect a decision this week.

@agpup123 @anxiousgirlny9 I also spoke to an admissions officer and she suggested that I request an expedited decision. She said that it would not affect their final decision at all if I ask for an expedited decision. I am also hoping to hear back this week.

@agpup123 @elleko15 did they ask you to send prove of other decision deadlines to expedite your decision??

proof*

@agpup123 how to make a phone appointment? Thank you so much for all this information.

@spanishtransfer they did not. I told them that the UC deadlines for accepting an offer is June 1st. I think the reason that they might not have asked me for proof was because it’s a set deadline for all the UC’s or maybe they are aware of some of the important deadlines for committing to certain universities, honestly I am not sure. I don’t think that they will ask you for any proof though. I personally submitted my application on April 15 and spoke to an admissions officer at the end of april and she suggested that I request my application decision to be expedited so that I could receive a decision this week.

Let me know if it works

do all documents submitted onto your portal appear with the green check, or are there some still with the paper emoji next to “received”? I wonder if the tiny paper thing means they haven’t gone through those materials yet…

@elleko15 Thank you for all your information and all your help. The link did work and I scheduled a meeting. I hope we all get accepted and get to hang out with each other.

@spanishtransfer on my portal everything but the essays have a green check mark that says received. My submitted essays however, have a paper icon that also say received so I am guessing the paper emoji just signifies our submitted essays. As long as it says that everything has been received, I think we are fine so long as we don’t have red x’s anywhere on our checklist.

@anxiousgirlny9 yay, I am glad. Me too! I hope we all get accepted and I will keep me fingers crossed for you, so you get an early decision!

Do you think a GPA of 3.4 in cc would put me in disadvantage ?

I was told that if it’s incomplete, you would receive automated email reminders (like every Friday or so). Otherwise, you can consider they have received all necessary materials.

@anxiousgirlny9 from what the admissions officers have told me, is that they review our applications holistically. They will look at everything and not just focus on a part of our application that may not be perfect. I think as long as your essays, recommendations or other parts of your application are in good condition, you will be more than fine. I hope that we all get great news soon!

@elleko15 Thank you! I hope we all get in though…

Accepted today.

2nd bachelors degree

HS GPA: 3.9-ish
1st BA GPA: 2.9
Post-bac GPA: > 4.0 including 4.33 at Columbia as a visiting non-degree student
Scores: waived (I went to high school in the 80s and it was going to be a real hassle to get them), but they were high.
Recs: one professional, one academic (from a class at Columbia)
ECs: none. I own my own software business and that keeps me busy enough.

Submitted 4/28

This afternoon I checked the portal and saw I was now awaiting official transcripts, but no decision was made. A few hours later, I got the email.

Hope this helps anyone else waiting for a response.

@zoombie Congratulations! decision in 4 weeks is an impressive timeline.
do you mind me asking what was your first degree in and what are you planning on majoring?
