Columbia GS Fall 2020 Early Action/Regular Decision Thread

@exdoll Yay! Congrats!!

Hey guys, would anyone mind sharing how much their new student scholarship was? Mine was pretty low, and I was just curious how much it is for everyone else. For those who plan to attend, did you get good financial aid or are you taking out loans?

@agpup123, I’m still waiting. How much did you receive? Was It between $10 and $15k?

How much are you looking at potentially having to borrow?

@decisions2020

Yes I only got 10k, meaning I would have to borrow about $26k if I wasn’t living on campus and just commuting…I am super bummed because I really want to go to Columbia. Has anyone successfully appealed and gotten more scholarship money? Or been successful with outside scholarships?

I’m not sure if its worth it to just go to my local school which is way cheaper.

@agpup123 Oh wow, that’s a lot for just one year! I’m trying to figure out the financial aspect as well. If you’re an NY resident, maybe you can look into any state-specific grants that you can apply for! You could also file an appeal - it’s worth a try! Honestly, I feel like a lot of admits will decide it’s not worth it due to the unusual circumstances that the pandemic imposes. What’s the point of going into $26k worth of debt this year if we won’t even get the full Columbia experience?

Hey ladies and gents, I hope you can help me with a concern. Does your application checklist still show the official test score line item as “awaiting” versus received for everything else? I took the GSAE through Examity and submitted a screenshot of my scores prior to the hard deadline. I emailed the GS-admit email looking for guidance on Monday but have not heard back. I followed up with the College Board who verified Columbia should have access to the score.

It may be paranoia but it is important to me to get all those green checkmarks. I have no issues with the aspect of being rejected based upon lack of merit or failing to meet the standard with a full evaluation… But it would frustrate me to miss such a fantastic opportunity due to technical mistake.

Thank you for your consideration,
B

My official test score used to show awaiting. I sent an email to them and they updated my official test score in 3 days. Make sure you tell them your application reference number on the email. Sometimes take about a week for them to reply

Hello all,

I have been lurking in this thread for awhile now but this is my first post. I applied to Columbia GS for Fall 2020 right on the regular decision deadline of June 1st. The last green check mark on my application was the second of my two recommendation letters on June 21st. Assuming that the 6-8 weeks time frame for a decision to be made is accurate, I am hopeful that between today and next Monday I will receive word back on whether I am accepted or not. Just wanted to join in and say congrats to all those who have already made it in, condolences to those who did not get the news they wished for, and of course good luck to those who are still waiting to hear back! I am not sure if there are any other folks such as myself who submitted their applications on the final June 1st deadline.

Hey there,

I’m in the same boat; I’ve been viewing this thread for a while and finally decided to post. My application and letters of recommendation were completed in April, but I actually didn’t submit my essay until about midday on May 31st. I could have sworn that the admissions page said that applications completed by June 1st would receive a decision by July 1st, but when I checked the page again around the end of June, the decision date changed to July 20th… I’m not sure if I was mistaken when I viewed it the first time or if they actually pushed back the decision date.

I saw a previous post of someone else who submitted on the same day as me and received their acceptance on July 1st. I’m really anxious but I’m practicing patience – especially considering the pandemic…admissions probably cannot operate in their usual time frames.

For those who were accepted, did you receive an email, a letter in the mail, or did you just check the application status periodically? I’m not exactly sure what to expect.

I too would like to say good luck to everyone still awaiting a decision, congrats to those accepted, and apologies to those who received disappointing news.

It seems like they release the decision on Wednesdays. Hope we can hear it tomorrow.

That would be great!

I got in!

congratulations!!! I got in as well!

How can you tell if you were accepted or rejected under application status? All I have is three entries in Application Management—>Type—>Application Details: 1.) Submitted 5/31/2020 2.) 2020 General Studies 3.) General Studies — Fall 2020 —Regular Decision. Maybe mine is still being reviewed?

@longshot413 Hi! There should be a button that says “Open Application.” Once you open it, if a decision has been made, there will be a Status Update section highlighted in yellow and then a link that says “View Update.” If that isn’t there yet, then your application may still be in review.

When did you complete your application?

Essay—6/22/2020. HS transcript—7/14/2020. Everything else was already received by 5/31/2020 including all LORs and college transcripts (94 total semester hours!). I hate feeling this anxious, furiously hitting refresh in their app portal and my Outlook inbox all the time ?

I submitted my application on may 31st and uploaded my essay on June 22. They did not send me an email, I just saw that there is a “Status Update” section on my portal. Then I saw my acceptance letter.

I got in as well! Congrats everyone!

@longshot413 @corei7 Yeah, I didn’t receive an email either, I just checked the portal and saw a status update.

Received status update email at 5:22pm. Sadly rejected, will schedule an feedback call with admission to see if it’s worth applying again in spring! Congrats to those admitted!
