Columbia GS Fall 2020 Early Action/Regular Decision Thread

Yes, I received mine on 1/23.

Nice Work! Congratulations!!

Anyone hear anything yet? It appears from last semesters that they let everyone know in bulk around 5p on the business day March 1. But that’s a Saturday this year so I wonder if we will hear on February 28.

@UnUnPw

I also received mine on 1/23 (just checked)

Same here. March 1st was a Sunday in 2015 and they did release decisions over a weekend, so it may be best just to plan for that and be surprised otherwise. The suspense is awful!

Hi. Are most people in this thread military veterans? Any CC transfer’s?

I feel the butterflies arriving as we get closer to the decision date - 5 more days!

Ah good to know!

so is it sunday the 1st around 5pm we get the decisions through the portal?

@Minsung12345 Should be Sunday at 5:30pm on the portal. Can you share your stats with us?
School(s) attended-
GPA- and total credits-
Exam used for review-
Military Vet?
Work experience-
Thank You!

Four… more… days…

Kindly pointing out that minsung posted stats on the first page of this thread.

Also, to answer your other question, I am not a vet and have a 3.9 GPA ~60 credits.

The waiting is so painful! I shouldn’t have gone deep in past threads to read that some occasionally get phone calls before March 1st…

Usually the phone calls (that I read about) werre requesting more info or clarifying or asking for an interview, not sharing the admissions decision with the applicant. Is that what you meant?

Anyway. I guess Sunday at 5p they will release it.

Hi,

I also applied for PEA and received an e-mail on Jan 23, stating I will receive my decision by Mar 1.

See #30 from the Fall 2015 discussion.

Has anyone gotten something similar?

I as well have received the Jan 23rd electronic message from GS admissions. Rest assured, if you have received this email, you will get a decision/response late in the day tomorrow.

Hello! Just submitted my application! I’ll be quite honest, I don’t know what my chances are with a not so stellar GPA from my previous UG institution. I did well on the GSAE, I’m a 1st Generation College student from undocumented parents, a Columbia Staff member and my recommendation letters are coming from a Dean of Students within the University and an Associate Director from a Dean’s office also within the University. My essay mentioned what I’ve been doing the last 10 years since leaving my previous institution, as well as CU 's Global Initiative on top of my intended program of study, and why GS would be perfect for me.

Anyone on the same boat?

Hi. Can you share your stats with us?

Hello, I know many of us will hear back tomorrow, and so I wanted to wish everyone the best of luck. The anticipation is killing me! Whatever happens, just remember that you are destined for greatness and that it takes rejection in order to truly succeed. To my fellow veterans, thank you for your service. No one could ever fathom the sacrifices you have made for your family and your country.

I’ve only attended one- Community College
GPA High School: 3.3/4.0
GPA College: 4.0/4.0 60 Units
The exam used: GSAE Decent scores but nothing special (275 on both and 6/8 on the writing). I think that is probably because I went over the word limit.
Military Vet- Yes, six years USAF.
Work experience- USAF, Sales, Customer Service, and Real Estate.
Extra-Curricular/Awards: USAF Operations Group Airmen of the Year, Mandarin learner, Dean’s List (every semester). Lots of community service, Private Pilot, Instrument and Commercial Candidate, Created, Coach and Captian a competitive Soccer team, and won Top Performer in my sales and real estate related jobs.

For the Essay, I focused on my past and how it has prepared me for my future. I explained why Columbia would paly a crucial role in my life and how the foundation only offered at an institution of its caliber would help me achieve my ultimate goals.

After reading forum after forum, I genuinely believe this group has a good shot of getting in. The average GPA of students who posted on this website (from past years) looks to roughly be around 3.6. The test scores don’t seem to matter all that much as they are all over the place; however, it seems General Studies just wants to make sure you will fit in well at Columbia, aka being able to read and write at an adequate level. Possibly around 250 or above for the GSAE and above the 70 percent on either the SAT or ACT, respectively (of course, this is just a guess and in no way absolute). From what I have read and heard, the one thing that stands out is that most of the admitted applicants wrote a solid essay. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put a lot of weight on that. When it comes to extracurricular activities and awards, I think they just want to see that you’re multifaceted in the sense that you embody multiple hobbies/talents or are extremely good at whatever you do. I regress; it seems that the majority of us posting on this forum are exactly what General Studies is looking for!

Best of luck tomorrow. I hope to see you all at orientation.

I had a phone interview a couple days ago and the admissions officer told me that the decision will be out for everybody from evening of March 1 to March 5 at the latest.

What major is everybody leaning towards? I applied for neuroscience.
