Columbia GS Spring 2021 Early Action / Regular Decision Thread

@GSdreamer26 I feel you. I’ve been checking and refreshing my portal + email like a madman

Has anyone received an email stating their application is in review? Just wondering what the status page should look like if completed.

I have attended all online seminars and spoken with Admissions, by appointment, three times August through September. I was patient in September, thinking I would have a response by 10/1 but, then I found out about my “technical issue officially on 9/28” after emailing twice in regards to it two weeks prior. By that time however, I had already made another appointment with admissions because I was worried I’d miss the 10/1 deadline. I was told I would be put in the first batch of 10/1 applicants and not have to wait the full 6 weeks. I’m trying to follow the rules by not bothering them but, it’s much harder this go around, especially since I still have RED writing on my status page… ??‍♀️

@Throwaway893 I would also like to join a FB Group if one has been created for accepted applicants, if I find out the good news soon! ?? Good luck to you!

@lilmisseastern I don’t think you receive an email stating that your application is under review. I believe it just automatically gets pushed up and then reviewed. I’m hoping to hear back by next Friday. Good luck!

@joshinthepark Thank you for your response. I didn’t think so either until I read the comments on here. ? At this point, I am thinking about it all the time and just so eager to know. ?

@lilmisseastern Yep, no problem! I usually scroll through this forum a couple times a day, to see if there’s new info and what not. We should be hearing back fairly shortly!

@lilmisseastern Thus far, I have received two emails. The first came as soon as I submitted my application. The second arrived three days later, reiterated that my application had been submitted ,and contained my CUID number. Lastly, I think the ‘red writing’ on the status page is normal. Your application should be under review as long as there is a green checkmark next to each checklist item.

@joshinthepark I’m curious, what makes you think they’ll send out some notices next Friday?

@GSdreamer26 Thanks for the info! I received those same emails too, just they way you explained. My technical issue back in September had to do with the “check marks.” Even though my materials and transcripts had been shown as received in August, no-one checked them from red to green for me.

So, for anyone still applying, don’t be shy about making an appointment to stay on top of it. I was trying to be courteous by emailing when I couldn’t get anyone on the phone and it cost me another months wait.

Good luck to future applicants! ??

@GSdreamer26 I spoke with an admissions representative last week and she told me that they were expediting the applicants who applied by the Oct 1 deadline. She said that I should hear back before Nov 1, which is going to be next Sunday. So I’m assuming they’ll come out next Friday, don’t hold me to this though haha

I got in!

@HeatherWei Congratulations! When did you submit your application?

Thank you! I submitted on October 1.

Did anyone else receive a decision yesterday? I applied at the tail end of the early action deadline, so I probably won’t hear back until ~ 11/13.

Yeah, I received an acceptance yesterday. I’ll break down my timeline for everyone.

10/1: Submitted application missing one LOR, received first automatic “Thanks for submitting” email within minutes of sending in the app

10/6: Received automatic CUID and portal link email

10/7: I didn’t submit an unofficial HS transcript so I had a red x. I followed up about this and coincidentally they received my final LOR the same day. Because of this, they responded saying that my file appeared complete and was being pushed to committee.

10/20: Received a manually written email requesting unofficial midterm grades and a follow-up question about academic history.

10/28: Portal updated around 5PM EST with red x for official transcripts, “Status Update” arrived around 6:30PM with acceptance letter and admitted student portal

10/29: No email about status update still

@bataccount6969 Congrats! On 10/7, did you get an email stating that your profile had been submitted to the committee or did they relay that information to you over the phone?

Everything was over email

Just FYI for everyone On here. Columbia GS creates a Facebook Group, according to my research sometime around November 15th for accepted students. Title will be:

Columbia GS -
Spring 2021 Admitted Students
(Approval for Joining)

You can type this in now and it should bring up the past groups from Spring & Fall 2019 and Spring & Fall 2020. They all have the same picture, the Lewisohn Hall building.

Congratulations to those who have already been accepted and Good Luck to those of us still waiting! ??

Thank you for the info! Also, CONGRATS to everyone who got in!!! Still patiently waiting to hear back

Spoke to an admission representative the other day and they had mentioned that they had an influx of applicants this year (more than previous semesters).

So they are behind sending decision to applicants (about 75 still in review for early action). If your status still show’s as “submitted”, I would definitely call in to check the status. I submitted my application before the Oct 1st deadline and was told by different admission representative incorrect status about my application.
