Has anyone been accepted to the Columbia Honors Science Program (or rejected)? Do you know that they look for and how was the test?

for Columbia SHP?

ive been in it for two years and im applying to CC early.. hope it helps a little.

um i know lots LOTS tried out and hundred something or maybge even low 200something# of kids made it. The test was quite challenging though - not gonna lie. but many kids who made it arent quite smart so i dont know. I know that competition was quite big for the year i treid out at least.

btw i find it funny that 95% of the SHP kids are asian.. hey im asian i can say that haha

best advice would be.. know your math.

The test is about bio, chem, physics, maybe a bit of earth science, and lots of math. There are two math sections: the "easy" part and the "hard" part. I'm guessing that the hard part is what makes or breaks your acceptance, because the sciences are pretty easy.

If you apply as a sophomore, you get a better curve than if you apply as a junior.

I think about 2000 people (?) took the test and about 270 got in.

im in the program this year (yay!) and i got in as a junior (im a senior now)- i thought the test wasn't that bad at all...the science section is basic knowledge and stuff you would get from an entry level class in that stuff, the math is also not bad, except for the challenge section...those are hard

is calculus in the math?

Ehhh...The easy math part is algebra and probably graphs.

The hard math is more like AMC-type questions. I didn't know any calculus at all and I got accepted, so I don't think it's on there. Oh, I remember that you can't use calculators on the challenge math section.

no calculus

i got in too, as a sophomore--but there are a lot less sophomores that enter than juniors

I'm in it this year too. Wow I can't believe the acceptance rate was that low. i guess I had an advantage from being a junior. What classes are you guys taking this year? I'm taking Intro to Psych...

heh, i'm in your class.

Gravity and Relativity

Crash_Blair, what do you look like? I want to meet you haha

That sounds really scary haha.

and i'm already scared hahaa xD

lol sorry i'm a girl, just so you know...i think people automatically assume i'm a guy for some reason

if you don't want to meet me, thats okay too :(

The test was easy. n00bs

The only challenging part was the "challenge." hah.
k.

Wow, very insightful!

So is it just hard because it's like incredibly hard problem solving? And it's comparable to AMC 12?

hey guys.. This is my first post here. I just wanted to know if you could tell me info on the math section. Like what will be on it (detailed ex. parabola, Locus, Quadratics)

please help im going to have to take the test soon so please tell me anything you know about the math section.

know your precalculus well. pretty much all of it, but you don't have to know really really advanced stuff.

i took the test a looong time ago, got in, but i don't think it was the test that got me in. it was probably my rec.

Regular math section is probably Math IC level. Challenge math is mathletes-style math.
