Columbia in housing Crisis this Year?

So I'm one of the many (50% from what I hear) incoming transfer students who still hasn't received a housing assignment days literally days from shipping out. It's very annoying to not know if you're going to be in a double or single in terms of preparation, so I gave them a ring and apparently they're booked solid this year and even had to resort to booking a hotel, or part of one I guess.

Does this happen often or is this a first for the Lions?

Columbia has had a tough year housing wise. They had more freshman than expected move into furnald, causing them to pay upperclassmen to move into EC at cheaper rates. Good luck with figuring it out.

Relax. I'm a first year student at my college, and I haven't even received my housing assignment.

This in and of itself shouldn't cause a housing shortage since they would just bump them to JJ/carm/Hart/or Wallach. Does columbia publish the rate at which people who were offered admission accept; if so, is it out for this year? (I know there's a name for that stat, just can't think of it...)

That's the only thing i can think of that would cause a housing shortage...

Also, it seems EC has gotten pretty unpopular in the past few years...something to keep in mind for anyone registering for housing next year. I wonder if a group of 3 rising sophs and 2 jr's could get a suite next year....

I wonder why, from the research I did when I got in it seemed to be one of the best in terms of sociability and setting.

And if it helps OP I haven't gotten a decision yet either. I think they might end up sticking transfers in any free rooms, so it's up to luck now. You might randomly get a Broadway single. :) Wouldn't that be awesome?

I'm hoping for a single...that's about it.

PS. For bedding purposes, are the beds standard twin ones or some special size?

^They are the kind that are a few inches longer than a normal twin.

Thanks! So...Does that mean that twin bedding won't fit? What size does then and where is it available?

it's "extra-long twin", available at most stores like bed bath & beyond.

columbia has had housing crunches before, they still find everyone a bed who needs a bed by the time move-in day happens.

The fitted sheet absolutely will not fit. Otherwise, you can work the other items of regular twin bedding.

i've called and spoken to housing the past two days, transfers should expect an e-mail tomorrow (friday) or monday with regard to move-in/roommates/housing assignments. it turns out that the assignment visible on my housing application is my real assignment and not a placeholder.

Neat.

Casey are you a transfer? May I ask what you got (single/double/walk-through double) and in what building?
