Columbia Interview - Dress code?

"You generally don't know what you mean. Seriously. Why on earth do you think you have any business making statements like "I doubt that they'd ask you that" when you have absolutely no basis for doing so?"

I come to this site to figure out what I mean and get more information so that I will know what I mean in the future. I have just as much business to speculate and state what I believe as anyone here. By stating those beliefs, I would think that I'd get politely corrected and learn from them if they were wrong. It is your choice to believe what a person thinks, and the consensus generally says that you know what you are talking about, and I don't. So why take my word so seriously and instead politely correct me if my belief was wrong? It was my belief that they would not ask a person that, and I am glad that you pointed out that many interviewers do in fact point that out. I did not state for a fact that they do or do not ask a person that, I just stated that "I" doubt that they would. I really don't understand why you have to try to instigate some fight with me every time I post something. Have you forgotten that this is College Discussion? I would think everyone is here to help everyone else out, not ridicule someone by saying that they have no business saying what they thought or that they generally don't know what they mean.

"For girls, wear whatever the girl-equivalent of what a guy would wear in that situation. How would you dress if you're going out to dinner with your grandparents or something like that?"

that depends heavily on the restaurant lol, if it were some fancy ball-room like restaurant I'd proabbly wear a dress, if it were just some normal eat-your-dinner-there restaurant then tna or something'll do...
what do girls usually wear for these interviews?

cannednish I only applied ED to one school....so I'm not really sure what your comment was all about...

g0ldenboy's interpretation was correct...I applied ED to another school (not Columbia)....

Thanks for the advice Columbia2002 and g0ldenboy....I didn't mean to start a conflict...

when do RD applicants usually get interviews ... november, december, january? and does columbia contact you for the interview or do you have to call admin to request one?

Sorry aVenger1751, I interpreted your comment as if you were applying to two different schools via early decision. Sorry 'bout that.

Columbia2002, would you hold it against a person if he/she did not apply to Columbia early decision in order to compare financial aid packages?

Hmm well for those girls wondering what to wear, I wore a polo top and jeans. I did feel a bit dressed-down at first, but the interview was at a cafe and my interviewer went even more casually. It lasted about 1h 45 mins... really more like a chat with a senior, and my interviewer had lots to say about Columbia (but not much that I didn't know from CC =).

I'm applying RD and last Monday I got an invitation to interview. It was just an e-mail that basically said "I'm interviewing you for Columbia. Can we meet this Saturday?" I submitted part 1 a couple of weeks ago, so RD applicants can get interviews very quickly.

Don't wear jeans. Plenty of interviewers couldn't care less what you wear, but you don't know whether they will. Even if they're dressed more casually, that doesn't mean that it is OK for you to be totally dressed down. He has a Columbia degree, you don't.

N1--No. Financial aid is a good reason for not wanting to apply ED. But you better not talk about your fancy yacht or vacations if you mention financial aid.
