I just called Columbia to asked an admissions officer something, and he said that decisions were pretty much done.

if only they would put up the decisions earlier then. I hate how colleges finish like two weeks before they announce them.

I believe the Ivy has set this deadline and it is against policy to inform earlier.

i actually have already received a "likely" email from SEAS. anyone else?

see the other thread about this, anonymous

hey, i already posted this on another thread, but i'm wondering what it means, if they're already done with decisions. I called the admissions office on monday to ask about dropping a class, and my admissions officer pretty much said that i should drop if i wanted to, because it would affect my application.

so i took that as meaning "you're not getting in, so don't worry about dropping a class as far as columbia goes." i thought that if they were seriously interested in me, they would have wanted to know more about my decision.

any thoughts?

was the person who you talked to an admission's officer or just a clerk?......but anyway I highly doubt that your acceptance into Coumbia will be based around one class that you drop.

Your admissions decision, as you know, doesn't hinge on one class, but on an entire high school record and even more on top of that. Probably your question didn't give them time to check out your admissions decision, anyway. And even if it did, their response wouldn't indicate any admissions decision, I wouldn't think.

jono, whats the other thread, can you link me?

i left a message on the machine of my regional adcom rep... i think his name is ryan, for anyone who lives in the northwest.

but still, i feel like schools like columbia, with so many qualified applicants, look for a chance to reject you. then again, i probably just have that attitude so that when i get rejected, it won't be as bad.

islander, once columbia makes its admissions decisions, they will not be changed unless something dramatic happens (such as: you fail to graduate h.s., you are convicted of a crime, they find out that you lied about something in your application, etc...) dropping a class or getting a "B" or even a "C" during your last semester in h.s. will not change anything.

so the admissions officer was being honest with you about dropping a class. it will not affect anything one way or the other. there was no need for him to review your application in order to advise you.

good luck with all of your applications. this is a very stressful time for everyone!
