I'm going to be a sophomore at USC looking to transfer to any Ivy League school (preferably Columbia) and am wondering what my chances are or if you have any advice to improve my chances. Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.96
USC GPA: 3.96

SAT Writing: 740
SAT Math: 670
SAT Reading: 790

SAT II Math I: 620
SAT II Literature: 710
SAT II US History: 720

National Hispanic Scholar PSAT/NMSQT

Freshman courses included a 300 level history course and a 400 level senior seminar in history as well as a 300 level orchestral conducting class. (I'm a cello major at USC, hence the conducting.)

Your GPA is great, but you were a cello major? Are you going to continue being a cello major at Columbia? Because you can only major in music and if that's what you want to do, there are better places.

I actually want to study more theory and orchestral conducting, so I prefer the more intellectual environment as opposed to strictly conservatory studies.

out of curiosity, why didn't you apply to Columbia in the first place (instead of USC)? You probably would have got in, considering the fact that you are a high scoring (SAT) hispanic male.

^^
Yeah, that was what I was thinking. You should have gotten into Columbia. I wish you luck this time around and the odds are in your favor considering your college GPA and high school achievements.

Transferring to any private schools, especially Ivys is extremely difficult. But coming from USC w/ that GPA should make you a very good candidate.
